Race Along the Abandoned Pennsylvania Turnpike

October 18–19, 2025 · Waterfall, PA — Experience one of Pennsylvania’s most unique fall races: Two massive tunnels, miles of historic turnpike, and peak October foliage in the rolling hills of south-central PA.

This stretch of the Pennsylvania Turnpike, bypassed in 1968, offers a rare, traffic-free race course. Choose the Half Marathon (Saturday or Sunday), the One Tunnel 4 Miler (Sunday), or push yourself with the Two-Day Challenge.

Run nearly 5 miles underground through unlit tunnels—headlamp required—then emerge to sweeping fall views. The 4 Miler is approachable for new runners, especially those who’ve completed a 5K and want the next step up.

With official pacers for both Half Marathons, Movie Night on the Turnpike, and the small-town hospitality of Fulton County, End of the Road is a destination race weekend unlike any other. Spots are limited—secure your entry today.

Abandoned Pennsylvania Turnpike Tunnels

A headlamp or flashlight is required for the End of the Road Half Marathon and One Tunnel Four Miler. There are no lights in the tunnels!  Check out these recommendations.

Race Location

The Half Marathon and 4 Miler race start and finish line are located on the defunct turnpike in Waterfall, Pennsylvania.  The best street address to use is 3005 Pump Station Rd, Waterfall, PA.  For a google map link to the exact location, click here.  On Saturday and Sunday, there will be turn signs from the Breezewood Travel Plaza area to the start line to direct athletes driving from there to the start.

Your Fall Race Story Starts Here

Save the date for Saturday, October 18 and Sunday, October 19, 2025 in Waterfall, Pennsylvania.

This is a two-day event where each day of racing will be limited to 500 runners to accommodate more athletes without crowding the out-and-back course!

Race weekend offers a Half Marathon on Saturday and a Half Marathon & One Tunnel 4 Miler on Sunday. The One Tunnel 4 Miler is a great way to tackle your very first race—or take a step up from the 5K distance. If you’ve run a 5K before, the 4 Miler is your next step—it’s approachable, fun, and gives you the full End of the Road experience without committing to a Half Marathon.
