The Petersburg Half Marathon & 5K is an event that you do not want to miss! Runners and walkers of all abilities are welcome to join us. What makes this event unique?! It all starts with the city of Petersburg, Virginia, conveniently located just to the south of Richmond, and easily accessible by car or plane. The downtown area features buildings and architecture dating back to the Civil War era. The Start & Finish for both the Half Marathon & 5K will take place in the downtown area, offering a scenic backdrop for the event. Many of you are probably already familiar with Petersburg, but do not realize it. The city and downtown area served as the site for the filming of the movie “Lincoln” starring Daniel Day Lewis.
In addition to the city sites, the area also features the Petersburg National Battlefield, http://www.nps.gov/pete/index.htm. Major battles during the Civil War were fought at the Battlefield. Three miles of the Half Marathon course will take runners through the Battlefield Park. Muskets will be firing and actor soldiers will be duking it out for supremacy! That is going to be a spectacle to keep our participants motivating and smiling!
The Petersburg Half Marathon & 5K is an annual event that celebrates Petersburg and the history that forged our great Nation! All finishers in both the Half Marathon & 5K will receive a signature medal to commemorate your accomplishment and the event! Join us in April for a marriage of running and the sights & sounds of Petersburg, Virginia!
