IN-PERSON 6.6K and 3.3K WALK FAQs:

**If you register after 9:00AM on Thursday, October 10, for an in-person event, you will need to come to the registration area at packet pick-up to have a race number assigned.

 

**If you registered for an in-person event and do not attend, we will not mail your race packet!  You can transfer to the virtual event using your RunSignUp account through October 12.

 

RACE START TIME:  The 6.6K will start promptly at 8:00 AM on Fifth Avenue outside the EQT Gate at PPG Paints Arena; 3.3K walkers will line up behind runners and follow accordingly.

 

RACE-DAY PARKING:  Complimentary parking is available in the lots across the street from PPG Paints Arena using Bedford Avenue access.  Race participants and volunteers do not need to scan signage or pay any fees to park during the race.

 

Due to ongoing construction projects around the arena, some roads may be down to a single lane. Please leave extra time if you plan to park in these lots.

 

You can also use alternative downtown parking and use the T for downtown transit.

 

Please plan to arrive by 6:30 AM, as lots will fill quickly, and the streets will close around the Arena in preparation for the race. Please leave extra time for arrival.

 

If you park in an Arena lot, please do not expect to leave until after 9:30 due to road closures around the Arena.

PRE-RACE PACKET PICK UP TIMES/LOCATIONS:

Pre-Race Packet Pickup will take place Saturday, October 12 from 9:00am – 4:00pm at the Highmark Gate at PPG Paints Arena.

 

Participants are able to pick up packets for friends and family.

 

Medals are not included with in-person race packets.  Medals are received at the finish line!

 

Other Important Race Day Information:

 

RACE DAY REGISTRATION:  Race day registration will open at 6:30 AM inside the Highmark Gate at PPG Paints Arena. Debit/credit cards accepted.  No cash!

 

RACE DAY PACKET PICKUP:  Race day packet pickup will open at 6:30 AM inside the Highmark Gate at PPG Paints Arena.

 

6.6K MINIMUM PACE: Participants in the 6.6K are permitted to walk, but must maintain a minimum 20-minute mile pace. There are no exceptions to this rule. If you fall behind the 20-minute pace, you will be asked to leave the course or move onto the sidewalk. Roads will reopen based on the 20-minute-pace.

 

3.3K FAMILY WALK: This is an untimed event. Pets and strollers are permitted.

 

REFUNDS: No refunds or deferments of entry fees.

 

TRANSFERS: Participants can transfer between events, including between in-person and virtual, for a fee of $10.00 (plus the difference in event cost) through October 12.  If you registered for an in-person event and do not attend, we will not mail your race packet!

 

FUNDRAISERS:  You must raise the minimum of $166 to receive prizes. 

 

AGE CATEGORIES:  Age category awards for male and female competitors will be based on chip time in the following categories: 9 & Under, 10-13, 14-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75-79, 80 & Over. Cash prizes will be presented to the top three overall male and female finishers. Overall winners are not eligible for age category awards.  Prizes will be mailed to winners.  Virtual participants are not eligible for age group prizes.

 

PET WALK: Pets are permitted to participate in the 3.3K Pet Walk presented by Clearview Federal Credit Union as part of the 3.3K Family Walk. Registered pets will receive a "dog collar finishing medal" with your race packet.  Pet medals are not distributed at the finish line.  Pets are not permitted to participate in the 6.6K event. For the 3.3K Walk only: dogs must have current vaccinations, be safe to bring in public and be leashed at all times. No retractable leashes please. Owners must clean up after their dogs.

 

STROLLERS:  Children ages five (5) and under in a stroller are permitted free of charge for either the 6.6K or the 3.3K Family Walk. Please provide the name of your child when you register. For the 6.6K, the child's name must be provided through registration of an adult runner and must participate in a stroller. The child must stay in the stroller the entire length of the race, and the stroller must be pushed by an adult guardian. Strollers will start at the back of the field, and a shirt will not be provided. For the 3.3K Family Walk, the child's name must be provided through registration of an adult walker. A shirt will not be provided.

 

HAND CYCLES: Hand cycles are permitted in the 6.6K Run only.  Please contact the Lemieux Foundation for additional information about registering.

 

RAFFLE:  Each participant will be entered into the Pittsburgh Penguins 6.6K Raffle.  Raffle prizes will be drawn virtually and mailed after the event.  Prizes include signed Penguins memorabilia, apparel and other unique items.

 

Virtual 6.6K FAQs:

 

When do I need to run my Virtual 6.6K?  There is no official "race day."  You can run/walk your virtual 6.6K any time from your registration day through October 13. Please just make sure to submit your virtual race time by October 13.  You must submit your time in order to receive the race shirt and medal.

 

How do I submit my time?  You can clock your time any way you want - watch, app or even your treadmill.  You should then submit your race time manually on RunSignUp by clicking your RunSignup profile:

Navigate to your RunSignup profile by selecting the Profile Icon at the top right hand corner

Under your Upcoming Events > Select Submit Virtual Results > Enter in your Time > select Submit Time

 

What is included with registration?  Custom 6.6K short-sleeve tech shirt (mens, womens & youth sizes available), custom 6.6K finishing medal, printable 6.6K race bib, a virtual 6.6K raffle ticket (participants are entered to win great Penguins prizes and signed memorabilia - winners will be selected virtually and mailed after the event), and a special 6.6K Penguins ticket discount offer to two 2024-25 Penguins game at PPG Paints Arena! The offer is good for October 31 - Penguins vs. Anaheim Ducks and November 13 - Penguins vs. Detroit Red Wings. The ticket link will be included in your confirmation email.

 

When will I receive my shirt and medal?  All virtual race packets will be mailed the week of October 21.  Shirt, medal and any earned fundraising prizes will be mailed together if possible.

 

Do you ship to Canada or other countries outside the US?  Yes, we will ship to countries outside the US.  However, international shipping will be an additional charge.  You will receive an invoice through PayPal.

 

Is there an opportunity to fundraise during the Virtual 6.6K?  Yes, you can sign up to be a Virtual 6.6K Fundraiser during the registration process.  You can win great prizes while raising funds for the Mario Lemieux Foundation and the Pittsburgh Penguins Foundation.

 

Can I walk the Virtual 6.6K?  Yes, you can walk the Virtual 6.6K; just submit your time when you are finished.

 

How do I download my Virtual Race Bib?  You can download your custom virtual race bib by logging into your RunSignUp account and clicking on the Upcoming Events tab.

 

Are there overall and age division prizes for the Virtual 6.6K?  No, there are not overall and age division prizes for virtual participants.

 

Can I do the Virtual 6.6K on a treadmill or elliptical?  Yes, just send in your time after you have completed the mileage. 

 

How can you make your Virtual 6.6K more fun?
