Yes, we allow people to change their distance up until the Tuesday before the race, if the distance has not sold out. Follow the instructions provided here.
In most cases, minors (under the age of 18) are allowed to participate in distances of half marathon or shorter, as long as the parent/guardian gives permission. We will ask parents to fill out an additional consent form at packet pick up.
- If the minor runs with you, please ensure they can handle the distance and have the necessary gear, including proper shoes and a hydration system.
- If the minor runs independently, they must also be able to follow course markings and instructions. They should follow all the rules of the trail and race course.
For distances longer than a half marathon, parents should send an email to info@blazetrails.com to gain approval prior to registering. Provide important details, including the minor child’s running history and experience, and whether the parent/guardian will be running the entire distance alongside the minor child. We reserve the right to override the parents’ decision based on our knowledge of the course, distance, and race conditions.
Yes, registration remains open on Runsignup until each distance starts.
Transfers to another runner are allowed and all steps must be completed ONE WEEK PRIOR TO RACE DAY. Follow the directions provided here.
In the transfer, we will not charge the new runner. Payments are handled between the runners, not by us. There is no charge by Blaze Trails to transfer.

- We love dogs and know that many runners love to run with them. However, due to requirements outlined by our insurance company, we cannot allow dogs in the race.

Course and Race FAQs
All runners must run with a hydration system such as a handheld bottle, vest with bottles or bladder, or a belt pack. We recommend visiting your local running store to sort through your options. Aid stations are several miles apart, and carrying water is important to stay hydrated and reduce trash and waste at the event. Learn more about how to prepare for a cupless race. (Don’t worry, it’s easier than you think!)
All runners must be off the course by 5 a.m. Sunday morning. For the 69 Mile and 52 Mile runners, that is a 23 hour cutoff.
The Possum Kingdom Hike and Bike Trails have a great deal of variety, including packed dirt, rocks, sand, roots, hills and more. Each full loop is 17 miles and includes approximately 1,460 feet of elevation gain.
Runners will hit aid stations approximately every 4 miles. For details, visit the race website.
We provide runners with a wide range of foods, drinks, and supplies to help them have the best race possible. Aid stations typically include water/ice, endurance drink, soda, pickle juice, SaltStick, bananas, oranges, peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, cookies, chips, candies, and more. We’ll add special items depending on the weather conditions and will provide additional food for the longer distances. Non-food supplies include a basic first aid kit and period products.
We will not provide cups at our aid stations (learn more).
We provide portable toilets at the start/finish. The park has public bathrooms located next to or close to each of the aid stations.
We share the trails—other runners, walkers, bikers, etc. It is essential to be aware of your surroundings and hear people coming up behind you. For this reason, we suggest you either not wear headphones or listen to music in only one ear at a low volume. We also strongly discourage music played by a speaker while on the trail. This makes is harder to hear others on the trail and disturbs the people around you.
Bibs should be worn on the front and visible to the race director and volunteers.
Our timing chips are attached to straps that are worn around your ankle. Timing chips record your time every time you cross a timing mat. In addition, we use the timing chips so we always know who is still on the course.
If you decide to drop mid-race, you must turn in your timing chip at the start/finish so that you are accounted for.

Although we use the terms “runner” and “race” in our language, many of our participants walk either segments or the entire race distance. Anyone is welcome to walk or hike the course. If you are in the 69 Mile event, you will need to run at least part of the race in order to complete the distance on time.
- For an official finish, all distance changes must be completed before you start your race.
- In ultra distances, we will consider an unofficial finish and award the medal for a shorter distance, if requested by the participant.
Pacers are allowed only for the last loop of the 69 mile and 52 mile distances, and only when the runner will be completing the majority of their last loop in the dark. Sunset is approximately 8:20 p.m., so pacers are allowed after 6:30 p.m.
In other words, the purpose of pacers in these distances (less than 100 miles) is to ensure runner safety, not to help with speed.
Pacers are not allowed in the shorter distances.
All participants can keep a drop bag at the start/finish area. In addition, you may keep items in your car, as most people will be parked near the start/finish.
Participants in the 69M, 52M and 56K may have a drop bag for the South D & D aid station, which you will pass twice for each loop. The drop bag should be brought to packet pick up by 6:00 a.m. and should be reasonable in size and weight for our volunteers.
Drop bags will be returned to the start/finish at the end of the race. If you finish earlier, we recommend picking up the drop bag at the aid station after your race. We will not mail drop bags that are left behind.
Family can meet up with you at the aid stations, including South D&D and La Villa. Please ensure that crew follows all traffic laws and speed limits and does not block roads, race personnel, volunteers, other crew members, and other visitors to the park.
