We have tried over the last many weeks to try and host an actual race but it has become apparent that our plans and protocols to properly physically distance and support an in-person event will not be approved in time. Because of this, we will be pivoting this year’s event to a rich and full virtual event. See our personal message here that explains a bit more: https://youtu.be/kkkc3jTOtEQ
We have learned a great deal in recent weeks and have created a fun and engaged virtual race. Additionally, many of the social distancing restrictions have eased, so you can run the actual course using RaceJoy for a more involved event. Learn more about our virtual event here.
We will be converting all existing registrations to our Virtual event. The virtual event will be open from June 1st to June 27th, in which time you can complete your race and submit your results. During the month of June, the virtual event will host these many amenities:
* Race swag mailed in the last week of June to include the official medal, race gaiter, 13.1 sticker, and custom bib
* Official Rhode Races playlist on iTunes
* Weekly contests and raffles
* Official Race Cocktail with live streaming event hosted by Two Gals Cocktails
* Discounts to local running stores - available on line as well.
* Virtual custom bib and finisher certificate
* Online results page
* RaceJoy app to include progress alerts, custom cheers, off course alerts and more.
If you do not wish to join us virtually, you are welcome to defer your entry to next year or transfer to any other Rhode Races event. Please note that you must select either of these options by June 15th. We have removed all traditional fees for the transfer or deferral and will cover those costs internally.
*REGISTRATION TRANSFERS or DEFERRALS*

Our concern is to ensure a safe and fun event for all of our participants, volunteers, vendors and Rhode Crew. We have worked hard in this last week to finalize a variety of options for our running community, that will best suit your individual needs, knowing you won’t have to forfeit your entry fee or incur any additional fees.
While so many other events have canceled as well, and this likely isn’t a big surprise, it certainly is never easy for us to make this announcement. We are still pretty heartbroken about it.
This is a time for us to be good humans and give support to our families and neighbors. When normalcy returns our team of familiar faces will welcome you in with open arms and celebrate the return of community!
Please understand that true to our policy that’s always been in place, refunds are not an option. Most of the products and services to execute the race have been delivered and are non-refundable to us.
We ask for your patience and kindness in these difficult circumstances. We hope to be back better than ever and we are so looking forward to seeing you on the starting line. Thank you.

The Independence Rhode Race will be held on Saturday, June 27, 2020. In partnership with the Bristol Fourth of July Committee, the half marathon will follow the beautiful downtown streets of America’s quintessential community when it is decked out in its finest - during the Oldest 4th of July Celebration in America. The course includes incredible historic homes, a town common and the America’s Cup Museum before heading out along the scenic coastline, through Colt State Park and finishing along the water at Independence Park.
For more information visit our event website, www.RunRI.us
Please Note: The Independence Rhode Race will be happening rain or shine. Because of the logistics of planning for a race of this size, we cannot offer refunds for any reason. In the event that the weather is severe enough to create an unsafe environment for participants, organizers will cancel the event with no refunds issued.
