Description

Rhode Island Grand Prix Overview

The Rhode Island Grand Prix is an annual road racing series for Rhode Island-based runners and running clubs. Over the course of several races, runners compete as both individuals and teams to accumulate points in the hopes of winning awards (and bragging rights!) at the end of the year. The series’ mission is multifaceted and focuses on the following:

  • Encouraging and celebrating competitiveness at all ages
  • Providing adult runners with an opportunity to compete as a team
  • Supporting the state’s oldest and most iconic road races
  • Connecting the many different members of the Rhode Island running community

2025 Schedule

The 2025 series will include the following five races (with two more to be announced soon):

March 23rd - Aquidneck 10k
April 13 - Clamdigger 5 Mile Road Race
July 4th - Arnold Mills 4 Mile Road Race
August 10th - Bobby Doyle Summer Classic 5 Mile Run
October 6th - Ocean Road 10k
November 2nd - Colt State Park Half Marathon

Scoring

Individuals

At the end of the series, each runner's cumulative point total will be calculated by adding up the points from their 4 best performances.

Individual Bonus Points *NEW for 2025*

Additionally, runners can earn the following bonus points by competing at more than 4 races:

  • 5 races - 100 points
  • 6 races - 150 points
  • 7 races - 250 points

Teams

At the end of the series, each team's cumulative point total will be calculated by adding up the points from their 5 best performances.

Team Bonus Points *NEW for 2025*

Additionally, teams can earn bonus points one of two ways.

They can be earned at each race by having more than 3 people compete:

  • 4 people – 5 points
  • 5 people – 10 points
  • 6 people – 15 points
  • 7+ people – 20 points

And they can be earned overall by scoring at more than 5 races:

  • 6 races – 100 points
  • 7 races – 250 points

Golden Anchor *New for 2025*

Runners who compete at all seven races will earn the Golden Anchor, which will earn them recognition on a dedicated leaderboard as well as a special end-of-series prize.

Registration

Individual Registration

All participants must register for the series as well as the individual races they wish to compete in. Registering for the series does not guarantee entry into the individual races, so be sure to check the registration dates and capacities of the individual races. Links to the registration pages for the individual races are included below (and will be updated as more races open up registration).

Bobby Doyle Summer Classic 5 Mile Run Registration (TBA)

Team Registration

The team captain (who is selected by their team) registers for the series first. During registration, they create a new team and set up a team password. When other team members register they use that team password to join the existing team. At the individual races, those competing on RI Grand Prix teams should register under the same team never whenever possible. If a race doesn't have a team / group registration option then don't worry about it!

Rhode Island Winter Medley Overview

Racing doesn’t have to stop just because the weather went to hell. Yes, you will question your life choices as you wait for the windshield to defrost so you can safely make it to the start line. Yes, you will spend the entire drive toiling over how many layers to wear (only to inevitably realize mid-race that you choose poorly). And yes, it will take an alarmingly long time for the feeling to return to your fingers and toes afterwards. But, fun can still be had. You just need to have the right goals and motivation.

And that’s where the Rhode Island Winter Medley comes in (the Rhode Island Grand Prix’s cold, gruff, and reclusive uncle).
