Did you know that the average distance across Rhode Island is about 30 Miles? By participating in this race you can say that you ran/walked across an entire state... even if it is the smallest one.
Paws Across Rhode Island is an independently created race featuring a 30 Mile Challenge, and a 5K. Over the course of two weeks, participants can run, walk, or roll wherever they would like, at whatever pace they would like. Besides a fun challenge and something to do, Paws Across Rhode Island is benefiting the Potter League animal shelter in Middletown, RI. Be sure to bring your furry friends along on your walk, and know that you are making the life of another pet that much better.
This race is independently organized with support from Potter League. All profits from registration and any individual donations will go directly to the shelter.

A virtual race simply takes the concept of a normal race and brings it to your neighborhood on your own time. A two week time period allows you to get up at any time during the day and go for a run or a walk. It is a charitable way to encourage friends and family to get out and get active. It is also a great way to discover new places you've never been too. It also makes for a perfect date ;)
Why a 30 Mile Challenge?
As you can see by the screen grab from Google Earth, the East to West measurement of Rhode Island is just about 30 miles long. One day when I was watching videos online I saw a man do a multiple day trek across a country in Europe. I thought... I should do that with my state! Knowing that I definitely dont have the talent to actually cross the state, I wanted to make the journey virtual. 30 miles represents all of the amazing people, businesses and most importantly animals that reside in Rhode Island and that is exactly what Paws Across Rhode Island is all about!
