About Thrive Outside:
We are a nonprofit organization on a mission to ensure that all children have the opportunity to thrive outside, honoring their basic need and right to be nourished by nature.
Childhood experts agree that connection to nature is a critical component of childhood development, but in reality our children spend excessive amounts of time indoors and on screens, essentially having a “long distance relationship” with nature. Youth access to nature and outdoor learning opportunities is also an issue of systemic inequity. 74% of communities of color and 70% of low income communities in the US live in nature deprived areas.
Thrive Outside uses three powerful tools to close the “nature gap” and remove obstacles preventing kids and teens, especially those who are traditionally marginalized, from engaging in outdoor learning, exploration and play:
- Transforming schoolyards into dynamic "Outdoor Learning Zones"
- Training K-12 teachers in outdoor education methods
- After-school and weekend nature programs especially in nature deprived areas
