Course Info

The scenic course of Ocean State Ultra takes you through the breathtaking landscapes of West Greenwich, RI. The course has been updated since 2025, runners will now repeat a full 10 mile loop (there will be no out and back section). The course consists of 1.5 miles of desert, 1 mile of pavement, and 7.5 miles of trails through Big River Management Area. The trail is relatively flat with an elevation gain of 430 ft per loop and minimally technical terrain.

Experience a desert run in the middle of New England! We have a truly unique race experience with the start and finish located at the Rhode Island Desert.

The majority of the 10 mile loop will take place on the trails through Big River Management Area. There are sections that are wide and flat and sections that are single track with rolling hills.

Aid Stations

There will be 2 aid stations and 2 unmanned hydration stations along the course. The fully stocked aid station will be at the start/finish line at the desert. This aid station will have the most food options. The other food-stocked aid station is located around the 5 mile mark at Hell's Half Acre. The hydration stations will be refilled throughout the race, they are located at the beginning of the Burnt Sawmill Trailhead and at the parking area located on New London Turnpike Trail. Aid stations are nut-free to accommodate allergies.

Set-Up

No tents will be allowed on course. Participants may set up tables for their supplies in the designated area near the start line. No fires are allowed! Please do not arrive earlier than 6:00am as race crew will be setting up.

Timing & Results

All three race categories will be chip-timed. Results will be posted on Runsignup, Ultrasignup, and our website.

Parking

Parking will be offsite at the Park 7 Ride at Hopkins Hill Road and at 92 New London Turnpike. I suggest that everyone try the Hopkins Hill parking first until it has been filled before using the other lot. A shuttle will be provided to transport participants and spectators to and from the race location. Runners may be dropped off at the trail entrance but will not be allowed to park there during event weekend.

Race Swag

Each participant will receive a finisher sweatshirt. Additional apparel items are available for purchase through the online store
