Acknowledgement of Risk 

I understand that participating in a 5.5K race, whether running, jogging, or walking, involves physical exertion and certain inherent risks.

These risks include, but are not limited to, falls; contact or collisions with other participants, spectators, vehicles, or objects; uneven pavement and other course conditions; traffic; inclement weather; extreme temperatures; dehydration; fatigue; and other hazards associated with participating in an outdoor athletic event.

I acknowledge that participation may result in illness, injury, disability, or, in rare circumstances, death. I understand that event organizers will take reasonable safety precautions but cannot eliminate every risk associated with the event.

Physical Fitness and Personal Responsibility 

I certify that I am physically capable of participating in the event and have adequately prepared for the distance and physical demands of the activity.

I understand that I am responsible for assessing my health and fitness before and during the race. If I have concerns about my ability to participate safely, I should consult an appropriate healthcare professional.

I agree to discontinue participation and seek assistance if I experience unusual discomfort, dizziness, chest pain, difficulty breathing, or other symptoms that may indicate a medical concern.

I understand that participation is voluntary and that I may withdraw from the event at any time. 

Event Rules and Participant Conduct 

I agree to follow all event rules, posted signs, course markings, and instructions provided by race officials, volunteers, emergency personnel, and other authorized event staff.

I further agree to:

Remain on the designated racecourse unless directed otherwise.

Exercise reasonable care around other participants, spectators, vehicles, and course personnel.

Follow traffic-control instructions

Refrain from conduct that endangers myself or others.

Follow instructions regarding race delays, course modifications, evacuations, or event cancellation.

I understand that race officials may remove me from the event if my continued participation presents a safety concern or if I violate event rules. 

Emergency Medical Care 

In the event of an illness, injury, or medical emergency during the event, I authorize event personnel to contact emergency medical services and assist in arranging appropriate medical care when necessary.

I understand that emergency medical treatment and transportation may be provided by emergency service providers.

I acknowledge that I may be responsible for medical expenses associated with my treatment or transportation, subject to applicable law and insurance coverage.

Nothing in this agreement limits my ability to make my own medical decisions when I am capable of doing so. 

Photography, Videography, and Event Publicity/Promotions

I understand that photographs, video recordings, race results, and other event-related information may be collected during the race.

I grant the City of Manassas Park permission to use photographs and video recordings depicting me for legitimate, noncommercial City purposes, including event promotion, public information, social media, newsletters, and future race publicity.

I understand that race results, including my name, age division, and finishing time, may be published.

Participants who do not wish to grant promotional photography permission should notify event organizers before participating. The City will make reasonable efforts to honor such requests but cannot guarantee exclusion from incidental crowd photography or publicly visible event coverage. 

Registration, Refunds, and Transfers

I understand that race registration fees are nonrefundable unless otherwise expressly authorized by the event organizer.

Registration and race bibs are nontransferable without prior authorization.

The City reserves the right to modify the course, start time, event schedule, or other operational details when necessary due to weather, emergencies, public safety concerns, or circumstances beyond its reasonable control.

The City may postpone, modify, or cancel the event when necessary to protect participants, staff, volunteers, or the public.

If the event is postponed or canceled, refunds, credits, or other accommodations, if any, shall be governed by the refund and cancellation terms published at registration. 

Acknowledgment of Participation

I acknowledge that I have read and understand this agreement, including the description of risks, participant responsibilities, event rules, medical assistance provisions, and registration conditions.

I understand that participation is voluntary and agree to follow the instructions of race officials and authorized event personnel.

This acknowledgment does not release the City of Manassas Park, RunSignup, event sponsors, contractors, volunteers, or other persons or entities from liability for negligence or waive any legal rights that cannot lawfully be waived. 

Parent or Legal Guardian Consent for Minors

For participants under 18 years of age, this section must be completed by a parent or legal guardian.

I certify that I am the parent or legal guardian of the minor participant and have the authority to consent to their participation in this event.

I have reviewed the event description, acknowledgment of risk, physical fitness requirements, participant rules, and medical assistance provisions. I understand the foreseeable risks associated with participation in a 5K road race.

I consent to the minor's participation and agree to explain the applicable event rules and safety requirements to them.

I authorize event personnel to contact emergency medical services if necessary and to contact me using the information provided during registration.

I understand that this consent does not waive the minor's legal rights or release the event organizers from liability that cannot lawfully be waived. 

Signature and Acceptance

By signing or selecting the acceptance checkbox during registration, I acknowledge that I have read and agree to the applicable terms of this Participant Acknowledgment of Risk, Consent, and Event Agreement.

For a participant under 18, the signature or acceptance must be provided by their parent or legal guardian. 

In consideration of you accepting this entry, I, the participant, intending to be legally bound do hereby waive and forever release any and all rights and claims for damages or injuries that I may have against the Event Director, RunSignup.com, and all of their agents assisting with the event, sponsors and their representatives, volunteers and employees for any and all injuries to me or my personal property. This release includes all injuries and/or damages suffered by me before, during or after the event. I recognize, intend and understand that this release is binding on my heirs, executors, administrators, or assignees.

I know that running a road race is a potentially hazardous activity. I should not enter and run unless I am medically able to do so and properly trained. I assume all risks associated with running in this event including, but not limited to: falls, contact with other participants, the effects of weather, traffic, and course conditions, and waive any and all claims which I might have based on any of those and other risks typically found in running a road race. I acknowledge all such risks are known and understood by me. I agree to abide by all decisions of any race official relative to my ability to safely complete the run. I certify as a material condition to my being permitted to enter this race that I am physically fit and sufficiently trained for the completion of this event and that a licensed Medical Doctor has verified my physical condition.

In the event of an illness, injury or medical emergency arising during the event I hereby authorize and give my consent to the Event Director to secure from any accredited hospital, clinic and/ or physician any treatment deemed necessary for my immediate care. I agree that I will be fully responsible for payment of any and all medical services and treatment rendered to me including but not limited to medical transport, medications, treatment and hospitalization.

As it applies to my participation in this race, I agree to abide by the Center for Disease Control (CDC)’s recommendations for the prevention of the spread of COVID-19 and attest to having read the CDC’s guidance at: https://www.cdc.gov. I also agree to abide by any COVID-19 distancing and other safety guidelines issued by the state, the community or by this race for my participation in this race.

Further, I grant permission to all the foregoing to use my name, voice and images of myself in any photographs, motion pictures, results, publications or any other print, videographic or electronic recording of this event for legitimate purposes.

This event follows the standard running industry policy: All entry fees are non-refundable. We reserve the right to postpone or cancel the event due to circumstances beyond our control such as a natural disaster or emergency or as required to protect the safety of participants and staff. No refunds will be issued under these circumstances. We reserve the right to change the details of the event without prior notice. I understand that my entry fee is nonrefundable and bib numbers are non transferable.

By submitting this entry, I acknowledge (or a parent or adult guardian for all children under 18 years) having read and agreed to the above release and waiver including the no refund policy.
