The Polar Plunge involves jumping from Flatts Bridge, or entering from another  designated entry point, swimming in open water and leaving the water at the designated  exit. The participants acknowledge and accept that this activity carries with it certain inherent risks including, but not limited to, those set out herein. Such risks include cold-water shock, strong or changing currents, drowning, slips and falls, impact injuries, submerged hazards and collisions with other participants or vessels. These and others are capable of causing serious injury, permanent disability or death. Safety arrangements cannot eliminate all risks.  Participants declare that they are able to swim confidently in open water and meet the event’s published age and participation requirements. They must not enter the water if unwell, impaired by alcohol or drugs, or aware of any condition that makes participation unsafe. Anyone uncertain about their fitness must obtain medical advice before participating.

Participants must attend the safety briefing, follow all instructions, use required safety equipment, and enter only when authorized and from their designated entry point.  Headfirst diving and somersaults are prohibited. Participation is voluntary, and participants may withdraw before entering the water. BZS may refuse or stop participation, change arrangements, postpone or cancel the event for safety reasons.

I confirm that I am the named adult participant, am aged 18 or over, and meet the swimming, fitness and participation requirements above. I understand the risks, participate voluntarily and agree to follow the participation rules.  In consideration of being permitted to participate, and to the fullest extent permitted by Bermuda law, I accept the risks described above and my heirs and assigns release and indemnify the Bermuda Zoological Society and its oNicers, employees, event volunteers and agents from any claims that I or any others may have arising from my participation for injury, death or property loss or damage howsoever caused, including claims caused by negligence. The indemnity obligation shall extend and include any costs (legal or otherwise) that the Bermuda Zoological Society may incur as a result of any action or claim brought by me or any related party claiming for any damage whatsoever arising from or connected to my participation in this event.
