NABJ 5K RUN/WALK PARTICIPANT WAIVER AND RELEASE

In consideration of my entry being accepted, I, the participant, intending to be legally bound, do hereby waive and forever release any and all rights and claims for damages or injuries that I may have against the National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ), Elite Access Running, the Event Director, RunSignup.com, event organizers, race management company, sponsors, partners, vendors, volunteers, employees, representatives, and all agents assisting with the event for any and all injuries to me or my personal property.

This release includes all injuries, losses, and/or damages suffered by me before, during, or after the event. I recognize, intend, and understand that this release is binding on my heirs, executors, administrators, or assignees.

I understand that participating in a running, walking, or virtual fitness event is a potentially hazardous activity. I should not participate unless I am medically able and properly prepared. I assume all risks associated with participating in this event including, but not limited to: falls, contact with other participants, weather conditions, traffic, course conditions, personal health conditions, and other risks associated with running and walking events.

I acknowledge all such risks are known and understood by me. I agree to abide by all decisions of race officials regarding my ability to safely participate in and complete the event.

I certify as a condition of participating in this event that I am physically able to complete the event and accept responsibility for determining my own fitness and ability to participate.

In the event of an illness, injury, or medical emergency arising during the event, I authorize and give my consent to the Event Director and event personnel to secure medical treatment deemed necessary for my immediate care. I understand and agree that I am responsible for all medical expenses related to treatment, including but not limited to medical transport, medications, treatment, and hospitalization.

Further, I grant permission to NABJ, Elite Access Running, event organizers, sponsors, partners, and representatives to use my name, voice, photograph, video, race results, and likeness in any print, digital, social media, promotional materials, publications, or other recordings of this event for legitimate purposes without compensation.

This event follows the standard running industry policy: All entry fees are non-refundable. The event organizers reserve the right to postpone, modify, or cancel the event due to circumstances beyond their control, including but not limited to severe weather, natural disasters, emergencies, public safety concerns, permitting requirements, or other conditions affecting the safety of participants, volunteers, and staff.

No refunds will be issued under these circumstances. I understand that my registration fee is non-refundable and bib numbers are non-transferable.

By submitting this entry, I acknowledge (or a parent/legal guardian for participants under 18 years of age acknowledges) that I have read, understand, and agree to this waiver and release.
