Namesake - Jim Krause
Point Loma resident and local philanthropist Jim Krause passed away in August 2012 at the age of 62 after a courageous fight with pancreatic cancer that began in the spring of 2008. Jim grew up in Salem, New Jersey, and earned his undergraduate degree from Haverford College in 1972. In 1975, Jim graduated magna cum laude from the University of San Diego Law School. He practiced law for nearly 25 years in San Diego, specializing in complex commercial litigation throughout his career and was well known in the legal community as a securities law expert.
Jim believed in giving back to the community. He was a member of the Board of Trustees at USD, volunteered at the Mission Valley YMCA, past President of the Point Loma Rotary Club, and the First United Methodist Church (FUMC) of San Diego. Jim loved classical music and was an enthusiastic supporter of the San Diego Opera. He loved to cycle, developing friendships he valued greatly in Ten Bears and Cyclo-Vets cycling groups. His treasured accomplishments on the bike included many century rides completed with friends, including the Solvang Century, El Tour de Tucson, the Tour de Poway, Fiesta Metric Century, and the Eastern Sierra Century Ride.
Jim is survived by the family he deeply loved: his wife, Gale Jensen Krause and their three sons: Andrew, Mark, and David who support and partipate in Ride the Point.
During his illness, Jim’s medical team became his virtual peloton. Special thanks to the doctors, nurses, and staff at the UCSD Moores Cancer Center who were brilliant, kind, and compassionate. Drs Tony Reid, Michael Bouvet, and Andrew Lowey also support and participate in Ride the Point.

Pancreatic Cancer Research
The Point Loma Rotary Club, Sponsors, Volunteers, and VIP Riders visit UC San Diego Moores Cancer Center annually to present the proceeds from the Jim Krause Memorial Charity Bicycle Ride the Point to the research team who supported Jim Krause during his treatment for pancreatic cancer. The ride has raised over $500,000 for basic research. This research has led to several scientific break-throughs in effective treatment and early diagnosis of pancreatic cancer.
