Rumble at the Ranch - 6 Hour MTB Relay

Sun August 25, 2024 Highlands Ranch, CO 80126 US Directions

Race Rules

* Scoring: The race will start in three waves (wave assignments TBD based on entries).  Teams and solo riders will have 6 hours from their wave start to record as many full laps as they can in 6 hours.  All laps finished after the 6 hour mark from a team's start wave will not count toward the team total.  Teams and solo riders must start in the wave that they were assigned.  Starting in the wrong wave will result in a 1 hour penalty (no laps after 5 hours will count).  Finish order will be determined by the number of completed laps, then by finish time.

* Race Numbers: Numbers must be clearly visible from the front at all times.  They must be attached to the handlebars, facing forward, and attached at the top & bottom to keep the number plate from flipping up.  Numbers cannot be folded, bent, or wrapped around any part of the bike.  Riders must use the number plate assigned to that rider so laps can be credited accordingly.  A timing chip will be affixed to the back of each race number.

* Riders on Course: Pre-riding the course on race morning must be completed by 7:20am.  Only one rider per team is allowed to be on the course at any time during the race.  Warmups must be done in the parking lot or bike paths outside the venue once the race has begun.

* Passing on the Course: The course is 65 percent single track and 35 percent double track.  The double track is split into three sections, and provides for easy passing.  The single track sections of the course will require communication via a bell and/or voice by the faster rider.  Slower riders being overtaken by a faster rider must yield at the first available option by either moving to the side in a wider spot or stepping to the side of the trail to let the faster rider pass.

* Exchange Zone: The exchange zone will be enclosed within a fenced area.  There is a timing point at the lap start and another timing point at the far end of the exchange zone.  Riders must dismount their bikes at the finish timing mat and run/walk while in the exchange zone.  Duos and Trios must make their exchange within the fenced exchange area only by exchanging a small baton item provided by race organizers which fits easily in a bike jersey pocket.  Team riders may not enter the course without taking the baton from the previous rider in the exchange zone.  There will be a bike mount sign at the lap start timing mat.

There will be a coned bypass lane on the south edge (rider's right) of the fenced exchange zone for solo or team riders who are continuing onto another lap without exchanging riders or seeking assistance.  These riders may stay on their bikes (at a speed no faster than 7mph) between the lap finish timing point and lap start timing point.  Rider exchanges or riders carrying excessive speed in the coned bypass lane will be disqualified.

Rider assistance is not permitted in the exchange zone.  If a rider needs support with a mechanical issue, or restocking food or fluids, this must be done outside the exchange zone at the team tent or in the neutral zone outside the fenced exchange zone. 3. Please overtake with care and communicate to the slower rider. Slower riders please yield.
