Nick's House - Swarthmore

Creating a HOME away from HOME for families fighting cancer.

Time and time again, families are forced to travel hundreds and thousands of miles to pursue the most sought after cancer treatments that are offered in the Greater Philadelphia region. Unfortunately, for many of them, their stays in Philadelphia exceed 50 days. This can impact their financial situation and emotional state, but luckily the HEADstrong Foundation’s Nick’s House provides cancer patient lodging opportunities near Philadelphia. We want to help in any way we can and one step we take is by keeping families together as they fight.

Nick’s House provides complimentary cancer patient lodging for out-of-town patients and their families in the Philadelphia metropolitan area. Nick’s House is not a medical facility but a guest house designed to meet the unique needs of patients, their families and/or caregivers.

There are a few eligibility requirements that residency applicants must meet to stay at Nick’s House. Patients must be undergoing cancer treatment at the time of the application, applicants must travel at least 50 miles one way from Philadelphia, your minimum stay needs be 14 days, all applicants must have a permanent address to return to, and all patients staying at Nick’s House must be accompanied by an adult caregiver at all times.

Teddy and his parents Nettie and Nate Prive came all the way from Alabama to stay in Nick’s House while he received leukemia treatment at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.
