Message from the Race Director

Race Director Message

What a beautiful day for the 20th Lexington Health Heart and Sole Women’s Five Miler on May 16! Victoria Hammersmith from Greenville, SC, took first-place honors and set a new course record with a time of 29:55. She was followed closely behind by Liv Paxton from Charlotte, NC, who finished in 30:15, and Jessica Ramsey of Sumter, SC, who finished in 30:24.

It was a beautiful spring morning, and nearly 700 women of all ages gathered to celebrate each other and the power of a healthy lifestyle. We loved seeing lots of newcomers as well as the familiar faces of women who have faithfully followed the event since its beginning.

A shout out to presenting sponsor Lexington Health, whose employees came out to cheerfully volunteer and staff the health and wellness expo. The city of Forest Acres graciously hosted us again at the beautiful Gills Creek Memorial Park, and WIS News 10 helped get the word out to women across the Midlands.

We’re grateful once again to Scoop of Heaven Homemade Ice Cream in Elgin, SC, for the custom-made strawberry sorbet, which offered a perfectly delicious way to cool off after the event. And Earth Fare and Bruegger’s Bagels kept our runners and walkers replenished with their generous donations of refreshments and water. Participants also enjoyed visiting with the many local businesses that want to help women stay strong and healthy at our BlueCross BlueShield expo.

We appreciate ERA Wilder Realty and the Run for God team from Riverland Hills Baptist Church for efficiently staffing our water stops. And to the American Heritage Girls ringing cowbells, Easy Does It Duo with Bob Michalski, Annika Slaby on violin, Jacobi Gunter on drums, the AC Flora High School cheerleaders and Mason the Firefly for keeping everyone entertained. And we thank the dozens of course monitors who kept everyone on course and cheered on the women. We couldn’t have done it without you!

Save the date of May 15, 2027, when we plan to do it all over again. Until then, stay strong and healthy!
