Hilton Head Sea Turtle Patrol 5K

Join us for an exhilarating experience at the Hilton Head Sea Turtle Patrol 5K Run/Walk on August 10th! Immerse yourself in the stunning beauty of Hilton Head Island as the race unfolds on one of its most picturesque beaches. This event not only promises a memorable run but also supports a crucial cause—the protection of sea turtles.

All participants registered by July 31st will receive exclusive commemorative race shirts, so make sure to secure your spot early. Every finisher will be honored with a Sea Turtle medal, and the competition will be fierce for the custom Sea Turtle Medals awarded to the overall winners and top male and female participants in various age groups, including 12U, 13-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70-79, and 80+.

For added convenience, join us for Packet Pickup on Friday, August 9th, from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Palmetto Running Company, Shelter Cove Town Centre, Hilton Head 29928. Can't make it that day? Late Packet Pick Up will be available on race morning from 7:00 AM to 7:45 AM.

The excitement kicks off on August 10th at 8:00 AM sharp on Coligny Beach, with on-site parking available. Don't miss the chance to be part of this extraordinary event that not only promotes fitness and camaraderie but also contributes to the well-being of our beloved sea turtles.

 About The Sea Turtle Patrol.

Our organization is comprised of volunteers under the direction of SCDNR (South Carolina Department of Natural Resources) permit holder for Hilton Head Island, Amber Kuehn, and we patrol the beach beginning May 1st until the end of hatching season, which is in October, protecting our local sea turtle population and helping in any way we can. Each morning, the patrol searches the beach for nesting loggerhead tracks, identifies nests, and marks them with poles.  The nests are monitored for hatching after 45 days of incubation.  When hatchlings emerge from the nest, the date is recorded and 3 days pass before the nest is inventoried.  The contents of the nest will be counted and categorized.
