What is STEM Girls RUN the World?
STEM Girls RUN the World is an annual virtual 5K fundraising event organized by Project Scientist. Participants from across the continental U.S. can run, walk, or bike the 5K at their own pace to support high-quality, hands-on STEAM education for girls—completely free for families.
When and where does the event take place?
This is a virtual event and participants can run/walk/bike ANYWHERE and at ANY TIME between October 1 to November 8, 2026, which also includes National STEM Day (November 8).
Who can participate?
Anyone across the continental United States can participate by running, walking, or biking wherever they are. For mailing of swag items, a continental U.S. mailing address is required.
What are the participation categories?
You may register as an individual or join through a corporate team if applicable. Individuals can also join or create a group when registering.
What is the difference between Groups and Corporate Teams?
Groups are created by individuals during race registration and are a great way for friends, family, or community members to participate together. Registration for Group participants is $35 per person.
Corporate Teams are organized through a company or organization and are intended for workplace participation. Registration for Corporate Team participants is $45 per person.
What will I receive as a participant?
We offer two registration options—each packed with perks to keep you motivated:
Individuals – $35 + $3.10 processing fee

Corporate Team Members – $45 + $3.70 processing fee

When will my participant kit arrive?
Your digital bib will be available immediately after you register, with access instructions sent to your email. Physical items will arrive within two weeks of your registration date.
Can I receive a Tax deductible letter?
Yes, they will be sent 30 days post event if you would like one sooner please reach out to grants@projectscientist.org.

Who runs the event?
The event is hosted by Project Scientist, an education nonprofit that creates joyful and engaging experiences in science, technology, engineering, arts and math (STEAM) for girls* to inspire confidence and belonging in STEM. We offer summer and out-of-school programs in partnership with local schools, school districts, nonprofit organizations serving underestimated communities. *While we focus on girls Project Scientist is committed to serving children of all gender identities and expressions.
How do virtual 5K results get recorded or submitted?
Since this is a virtual race, you can complete your 5K anywhere—on a treadmill, in your neighborhood, or on a trail. You’ll receive instructions via email on how to submit your results online through RunSignup once you’ve completed your run/walk/bike.
What is the refund, cancellation, or race insurance policy?
All registrations are non-refundable. If you are unable to participate, your registration fee will still go toward supporting Project Scientist’s mission. The event is virtual and all swag will be mailed to registered participants.
Are there team fundraising goals or incentives?
Yes! Corporate teams, individuals, and groups can set fundraising goals during registration. Incentives, such as social media shoutouts, leaderboard recognition, and exclusive prizes, will be offered for top fundraisers and referrals.
Are there prizes or recognition for top performers and referral leaders?
We’ll be recognizing best run, walk, and bike times, largest teams, and most referrals. Special shoutouts will be given on our social media channels, and prizes will be awarded to select winners.
