Frequently Asked Questions
What distances are offered?
o For the inaugural SeaWorld San Diego Howl-O-Scream run, there will be a 5K (3.1 Miles) and a Kids Fun Run (Approx. 1 Kilometer).
What does my race registration fee include?
o Each participant’s registration includes an official event shirt, race bib, and medal upon completion of race event.
Is parking included in my race registration fee?
o Yes
Do I have to purchase a park ticket to participate in the race?
o No, a park ticket is not needed to participate in the SeaWorld races.
Is this a chip-timed event?
o The 5K event is chip-timed with results and rankings immediately following the completion of the race. Timing chips are attached to the back of participant bibs. Kids races are NOT timed.
Is there a pacing requirement for the race?
o Yes. There is a 16-minute-per-mile pace requirement.
What happens if I can’t keep up with the pacing requirement?
o Anyone not able to maintain the pace may be picked up or redirected by race officials to the finish line area, resulting in a shortened course.
Is the race walker-friendly?
o Yes, walkers are welcome to participate in the SeaWorld races. Just be sure to maintain the minimum pacing requirement when walking.
Am I allowed to wear a costume?
o All participants are welcome to dress up in costumes. Costume masks and any toy weapons are not allowed.
What do I bring with me to pick up my bib?
o Make sure all waivers have been agreed to and signed online by each participant. You must present a valid ID in order to pick up your race bib (driver's license, passport, military ID, or government-issued ID), and you may not pick up another adult participant's race bib. Parents or legal guardians must complete the race waiver for minors in order to pick up their race bibs.
Can I wear headphones?
o Headphones can be worn but are discouraged due to audio messages played throughout the course to ensure the safety of all runners.
Will the race be canceled or postponed due to weather?
o All races will be held rain or shine, except in the case of lightning or other circumstances if the Race Management staff determines in its sole discretion that cancellation or postponement is necessary.
Can I get a refund on my race entry?
o No, entry fees are non-refundable and non-transferable.
Does my race registration include entry into the park?
o No, park tickets must be purchased separately.
