Bishop Tucker Theological College (founded in 1913) grew into Uganda Christian University (UCU) in 1997, when it became the first private university to be accredited by the government of Uganda. Since 1997, UCU has grown from a few hundred students in theology and education to more than 14,000 students in fields such as business, social work, journalism, agriculture, technology, engineering, nursing, law, medicine, and dentistry. UCU has 6 campus across Uganda, serving urban and rural locations. The mission of UCU is to equip students for productive, holistic lives of Christian faith and service, which it has done for almost 30,000 alumni from across Africa and beyond. For many students in Uganda, obtaining a university education requires the resources of the whole family—and even with this support many students fall a few hundred dollars short of graduating. Sometimes a death in the family or the loss of a job affects the family’s ability to pay. Uganda Christian University Partners helps these students across the finish line by covering their final amount due, which is often $250 or less.
