The good news is that, as of the current forecast, thunderstorms appear to be expected later in the day (as it currently sits).

☔ Please plan accordingly and come prepared for rain. We strongly recommend bringing a poncho or other rain gear.

⛈️ In the Event of Thunderstorms / Lightning

For the safety of our participants, volunteers, and staff, the following protocols will be followed:

• Any lightning strike will result in a minimum 30-minute delay. The 30-minute clock restarts following each additional lightning strike.
• If lightning occurs before the scheduled 8:00 AM start, the race will be delayed until the required 30-minute waiting period has passed.
• We have already spoken with the Fenton City Police Department and developed a contingency plan. Based on our road-closure window, we are confident we can accommodate one lightning delay.
• Depending on the timing of any additional lightning and the incoming weather conditions, we may be able to accommodate a second delay.
• The primary limiting factor will be how long the roads can remain closed. Any decision regarding cancellation will be made in coordination between the St. John Applefest Committee, Fenton City Police Department, and Great Lakes Race Management.

❌ If the Race Must Be Cancelled

If weather conditions prevent us from safely holding the race within the available road-closure window, the event cannot be rescheduled.

The race will instead transition to a virtual format, and participants will be able to submit their virtual finish times.

• Please seek shelter immediately in your vehicle or the Entertainment Tent.
• Please do not remain outside near the Start/Finish area during a lightning delay.
