Bookin' It for TCS Libraries 5k

PACKET PICK UP IS FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 28 AT THE TUSCALOOSA MAGNET SCHOOL FROM 5PM-7PM OR ON RACE DAY STARTING AT 7AM.

Thank you for checking out the 2nd Annual Bookin’ It for TCS Libraries 5k. Last year’s event helped raise money to start a brand new library for our Success Prep Academy school, and we hope to continue to be able to positively impact libraries across our district. On average, a TCS library book is 19 years old. State library enhancement funding was cut in 2008 and only reinstated during the 2015-2016 school year. Since being reinstated, it is at a severely lower funding level than the 2008 era. If all state library funding was spent entirely on book purchases, most of our libraries still could not afford to purchase even one whole book per student. We aim to change that. The event will be held Saturday, February 29, 2020 at The Tuscaloosa Magnet Schools. The 5k will kick off at 8:00 a.m.  Participants are encouraged to dress as their favorite book character, but this is not required. Packet pick up will be at The Tuscaloosa Magnet Schools on Friday, February 28, 2020 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. or on race day starting at 7:00 a.m.

Awards will be given for first, second, and third place qualifiers in the following categories:
Male: 9 and under, 10-14, 15-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75+
Female: 9 and under, 10-14, 15-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75+ 
Placements will be determined by Tuscaloosa Track Club/chip timing.

Awards will also be given to best individual costume, best group costume, and highest school participation. 

Awards will begin at 9 AM.
