Round 3 is now open for registration!
Join us for PMG Awareness Organization’s Inaugural Virtual Run/Walk Event! The PMG Awareness Organization (PMGA) is an international non-profit of families, caregivers, and medical professionals who care about and strive to make a difference in the lives of those affected by Polymicrogyria (PMG). Polymicrogyria is a neurological disorder that causes the brain to have many (“Poly”) small (“micro”) folds (“gyria”). This disorder can affect the entire brain or only portions of the brain and it differs in severity from mild to severe. The common problems associated with PMG in general are, but not limited to, swallowing and speech difficulties, reflux, seizures of varying degrees (about 90% are affected with seizures) developmental delays, lack of muscle coordination, impaired mental cognition of varying degrees, and cerebral palsy.
Polymicrogyria is not a disorder that is well known. Many children often go undiagnosed and just get labeled as “developmentally delayed”, or someone who has a “seizure disorder”, or “cerebral palsy.” If the child does not have an MRI and a specialized radiologist who knows what they are looking for, many children fall through the cracks and are not offered the help they need. This MUST change! It is PMG Awareness Organization’s mission to promote awareness, and encourage diagnosis and treatment of Polymicrogyria through education, research , advocacy and support of individuals and their families who suffer from this often misunderstood disorder.
By participating in this :Be The Key" event, you will be benefitting and creating “miracles” for the children who are diagnosed with PMG and their families. 100% of net proceeds will be donated to PMG Awareness Organization to help fulfill it’s mission.
This is a virtual run/walk and can be completed wherever you are and whenever you can between October 7th - October 21st. Complete it all at once or complete a little bit each day. It’s up to you! Post pictures of yourself and/or group during the event on our facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/groups/974790792662799/
