Race Benefits the New Acadia Project

 Support the New Acadia Project

"On Good Friday, April 3, 2015, we lost our beloved Mayor Al in a tragic car accident. His family and his town of Loreauville were left heartbroken. At the time of Mayor Al's untimely death he was serving as Chairman of the "Project Nouvelle Acadie" or the "New Acadia Project". The Project is a publicly-supported effort to discover and study the home sites and unmarked graves of the Acadians who settled in South Louisiana and established what is known today as Acadiana - the homeland of the Cajuns. Mayor Al's deep passion for the Project was rooted in being a direct descendant of Joseph "Beausoleil" Broussard, the very first Broussard to have traveled and settled in present day Iberia Parish. Our efforts are to raise money to help this publicly funded project continue their research.

Join us after the race for food, fun jumps and music as we come together to celebrate the amazing Village of Loreauville!"

Financial support is needed to continue the search. You can support the New Acadia Project through donations to the non-profit Acadian Heritage and Culture Foundation at the Acadian Museum (337-233-5832; acadianmuseum.com or by donating to the New Acadia Project Fund at the UL Lafayette Foundation (337-482-0700; ullafayettefoundation.org). For more information, find the New Acadia Project on Facebook at www.facebook.com/NewAcadiaProject and the Louisiana Public Archaeology Lab web site at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, or email rees@louisiana.edu . What should not have been forgotten must be found!
