Closter Color 5K for Fighting Cancer

Please join us in supporting the Friends of Susan Carpenter Color 5K and David O’Hanlon Kids Color Fun Run on Sunday, June 4th in Closter, NJ.  Our goal is to raise awareness and funds that will supplement the medical needs of both Susan and David (and their families) as they undergo treatment for Leukemia and Lymphoma.

This events is a healthy and entertaining way for beginners and non-athletes to participate in raising funds while engaging with the whole community.  We have created a casual and non-competitive events for those who fear the 5K - and we have a competitive component for the more serious runners who are interested in a Certified USATF Certified 5K Course NJ13546JHP.

A note from Davids family:
Our eight year old son, David O'Hanlon, a 2nd grader at Hillside School, was diagnosed with b-cell lymphoblastic lymphoma on January 9th after having a tumor removed from his cheek.  It was a day we will never forget - it is so scary to hear that your child has cancer.

David will be going through chemotherapy treatments for two years, with  many clinic visits and hospital stays.  This is a battle the whole family will be going through - from being so sad, to being so angry that our child has cancer.  There are so many worries and, unfortunately,  the worry of hospital, clinic and  medicine expenses way heavy on our mind.  David's dad (John) has been disabled and unable to work for over two years and his mom (Lisa) has had to stop working to be the full time care giver for him.  We are blessed to have such a wonderful support system with our family and friends.  David is a happy, funny, and brave boy whose only wish is to be cancer free.  Any contribution that you could make to help support our family during this trying time would be gratefully appreciated.

Strength is:  a child going through cancer with a smile on his face.

Susan Carpenter, a teacher for 16 years, has touched the lives of hundreds of young children in Kindergarten and First Grade. She is the mother of two young children, Olivia and Sean; wife to David; and daughter of Merritt and Virginia Flehinger.  She was diagnosed with acute leukemia and had to temporarily relocate away from her family for 4 months to New York City for intense treatment at Sloan Kettering Memorial Hospital.  She will have to remain out of work for a year until her immune system is no longer compromised.  Your donation will be used to sustain her family and defray uncovered medical expenses while she is unable to work.

Welcome to the registration page for the Closter Color Run for Fighting Cancer . The 2017 event will take place on Sunday June 4, 2017.

The early bird registration period ends May 10-  $30 for the Color 5K Run and $10 for the Color Fun Run

The registration period ends June 4-  $40 for the Color 5K Run and $15 for the Color Fun Run

Online registration will open on April 1, 2017.

Due to the demand of our race - we are only able to accommodate timing for the first 475 registrants for the 5K run... and 525 for the 1K run.
