Description

This is a virtual 5K and 1 Mile race/run created to raise funds for the family of Brett Wyatt. He is the 13-year old son of Chris and Carla Wyatt.

Brett has been diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia. He was rushed to LeBonheur children’s hospital in Memphis on Jan 25 unsure if he would live. He spent 19 days in the ICU before being transferred to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. He is currently still at St. Jude. His story has been one of faith and answered prayers.

Brett is a 7th grader at South Gibson County Middle School in Medina, Tennessee. He has run Cross Country for the past two years. He medaled in all of his races this year, including a fourth place finish at the Best of the West.

Brett has always been a special young man who draws people to him with his humor and cheerful personality. The #BraveLikeBrett was created to help share his story. It highlights his infectious smile, desire to make others laugh, toughness, and drive to be the best young man he can be.

Please join us in signing up to run the Brave Like Brett Virtual 5K or Virtual 1 Mile run/race. We appreciate it if you can also pray for Brett, his family, along with his doctors, and nurses.

There is also the ability to donate more money if you desire or make a simple donation if you don't want to run/walk in this event.

You can run/walk in either the 5K race, 1 Mile race or BOTH!!!

100% of all funds we receive from this race via race registrations or donations goes to the Brett Wyatt family. Our time on this is donated to the family. It's really simple. No medals, no shirts, no awards! Avoiding all costs so 100% of this can be a gift to the family.

It can be as competitive as you want or as fun as you want. Full race results will be published at the conclusion of the event.

More about the virtual race

THE RACE: It's a virtual 5K or 1 Mile run/walk that you will be competing against people from all over the globe. You can complete the distance any time between March 5th to the 14th. You run where you are located in the world, outdoors for a distance of 5K while recording the data/distance on GPS watch or phone. You will then submit it to us when you are finished, and we will compile the results Sunday night to publish on Monday.

THE COURSE:  You make your own course and run it anytime you want to this weekend, wherever you want to lay it out. Make it fast, make it trail, make it road, make it downhill, make it uphill, make it with friends, or anyway you want it as long as it's the correct distance.

DISTANCE: 5K which is 3.1068 miles for us Americans. 3.10 miles+ will work for this. Don't make it short. It will really mess with the results when we try to compile them. You can run, Run It Fast, walk, crawl or take as long as you want as long as you cover 5K (3.10 miles). If you are doing the 1 Mile run/walk then the math is pretty easy on that one. Run/walk 1.0 miles and submit your results to us via this site.

RECORDING YOUR 5K/1M/PROOF/SUBMISSION: We are requiring GPS data to prove you ran the 5K race distance and to help make sure our results are as fair and accurate for everyone in the race, especially those competitive folks. DO NOT CHEAT. This is for fun and for a good cause. Once you are done, return to this site and on this page hit 'Submit Virtual Results,' and it will guide you through the process. You will be able to submit your results between March 5th to 14th. Information below on free GPS running phone apps. GPS is not required for the 1 mile run/walk option. We will also be emailing out reminders and more info on how to do all of this.

Remember: your result time is your ELAPSED Time NOT moving time.

You can run as many 5K's as you want between March 5-14, 2021 and submit the fastest one you so desire. However, once you submit your 5K data/result to us then that is it. That will be your completed entry of the race. Have fun, pick a fast course, turn that GPS watch or app on your phone on and enjoy running in Brett's honor to help raise funds, awareness, and get as many people as we can praying and rooting for Brett in his battle with lymphoblastic leukemia.

GPS Run Tracking/Options

If you don't have a GPS watch, you can still use a free smartphone free app to track your run/walk. Some of the better ones are Strava, Map My Run, RunKeeper. etc. All available on iOS or Android app stores for smart phones. They are FREE. If you need one for the race, download it, play with it a bit before you start your run.
