Monday, September 7th (Labor Day)
Signal Mtn. Town Pool at 8:30 am
This is a beginner youth triathlon with a pool swim and a closed bike and run course for ages 6 and under through age 15. It's the first of what we hope will become an annual event for Signal Mountain and one of many youth triathlons in the Chattanooga area. "Seedlings" (Ages 6 and under) will swim 25 yards, bike less than 1/4 mile, and trail run ¼ mile. "Sprouts" (ages 7-10) will swim 75 yards, bike 2 miles, and trail run approx. ½ mile. Giants (ages 11-15) will swim 150 yards, bike 4 miles, and trail run approx. 1 mile. Race age will be determined by actual age on Sept. 7, not “USAT age” at the end of the year.
All participants will receive an official Green Giant Triathlon race shirt and finisher’s medal. Post-race refreshments and snacks will be available. Full race results will be posted online following the race, and age group awards will be presented to participants post-race.
Note on starting time: Seedlings (6 and under) will start at 8:30 am. Sprouts (7-10) will start approx. 9:00 am. Giants will start approx. 9:45 am.
The triathlon starts with a time trial start (one triathlete at a time, approximately 5 seconds apart) in the Signal Mountain Town Pool. Distances will range from 25-150 yards, depending on age (Seedlings=6 and under, Sprouts=7-10, Giants=11-15). Upon exiting the pool, participants will mount their bikes and ride down Rolling Way, turning left on James Blvd, and turn around near the Signal Mountain Country Club (~2.0 miles rt). Like the swim, bike distances will vary based on age. Older kids will do two laps of the course. The bike course will be closed to vehicular traffic while participants are on the course. Upon completing the bike course, participants will run on trails within Town-owned land surrounding the pool and ball fields. Running distances will vary according to age groups. With the exception of the 6 and under group, parents will not be allowed on the course or in transition during the race. For ages 7 and above, participants must be able to swim at least 75 yards and ride a bike safely without training wheels.
An optional race orientation/"Triathlon 101" clinic will be held on Sunday, September 5th at 5:00 pm at the Signal Mtn. Town Pool. Packet Pickup will be available at the orientation and also on race morning starting at 7:30 am. Transition setup will open at 7:15 am and close by 8:15 am race morning. All bikes and equipment must be in transition by 8:15 am.
