Behind Sean’s Hope 5K is a little boy whose life left an impact far greater than words could ever explain. Sean Mateo Reyes was a beloved son, brother, and little boy who taught those around him the true meaning of unconditional love, strength, and resilience. Although he faced many challenges throughout his seven years of life, Sean was so much more than his diagnosis. His life was filled with love, and his presence forever changed the lives of those who knew him.

As Sean’s parents, we wish more than anything that he could still be here with us. While we cannot change his story, we can continue sharing it and finding ways for his life to make a difference. Following Sean’s passing, we made the decision to donate his brain to medical research, with the hope that his contribution may help researchers better understand HNRNPH2-related disorders and bring us closer to future treatments for other children.

That same hope is what inspired Sean’s Hope 5K.

Our vision is to one day establish a scholarship in Sean’s memory, helping students pursue their education and dreams. We hope to create something lasting in his name, turning our love for Sean into opportunities for others and allowing his legacy to continue making a difference. Sean’s Hope 5K is more than a run or walk. It’s a celebration of his life, an opportunity to bring our community together, and the beginning of a legacy we hope will continue to grow.
