Your New January Tradition Starts Here
Kick off the new year on the trails. The Lost Pines Endurance Fest is a brand-new multi-distance trail event set among the towering loblolly pines and shimmering lakeside views of Lake Bastrop. Whether you're chasing your first 5K finish, grinding through a full marathon, pushing into ultra territory on the 50K, testing your limits over eight hours of running, or loading up the ruck and grinding it out, there's a place for you at the start line.
The course follows the scenic North-South Trailway, an out-and-back route that winds through one of Central Texas's most beautiful and resilient landscapes, the famous Lost Pines. Expect rolling terrain, packed-dirt singletrack, pine-needle-cushioned stretches, and glimpses of Lake Bastrop through the trees. It's runnable, it's gorgeous, and in January, the cool Central Texas air makes it just about perfect.
We built this race for everyone. First-timer? Welcome. Ultra veteran? Let's go. Rucker with a loaded pack? We've got your division. This is a weekend to push your limits, support each other, and celebrate what your body can do.
The Course
North-South Trailway · Out & Back
The North-South Trailway connects Lake Bastrop's South Shore and North Shore parks, curving and climbing gently through dense pine forest, past scenic lake overlooks, and across a series of bridges that span the park's creeks and inlets. The trail surface is a mix of packed dirt, sand, and rock with gentle rolling elevation changes, technical enough to feel like real trail running, forgiving enough to keep you moving.
Toe Drain Crossing, one of the wooden bridges on course.
|
Terrain Packed dirt, sand, rock, pine needles. Rolling hills. Well-marked and well-maintained. |
Scenery Towering loblolly pines, lake views, creek crossings, quiet forest. One of Texas's most unique ecosystems. |
January Mornings in the 40s to 50s°F. Afternoons 50s to 60s°F. Headlamps required after dark. |

First 5K or Fiftieth Ultra? You Belong Here
The Lost Pines Endurance Fest was built from the ground up to be the kind of race where everyone feels at home. We want the first-timer to feel the same energy and support as the seasoned ultra runner. We want the rucker grinding under a loaded pack to get the same cheers as the 5K finisher crossing the line with a huge grin. This is a community event, and you're part of it the moment you sign up.
Ruck weight rules for the event:
• Men: 30 lbs minimum • Women: 20 lbs minimum
A few important details regarding the weight:
• These are minimum baselines (floors, not targets), so you are welcome to carry more if you want the extra challenge, but you cannot carry less.
• Your ruck will be officially weighed and verified at check-in, and we do random spot checks throughout the event.
• The weight must be carried inside a standard rucksack/backpack worn on your back (weighted vests do not qualify).
• The pack must remain on your back for the entirety of the event, though you are welcome to take it off and set it down to rest during your break.
The 8-hour timed event is perfect for runners who want to set their own pace and see how far they can go. Run as many out-and-back laps as you can within your time window. Walk when you need to. Sit at the aid station for a minute. Then get back out there. Every mile counts.

Last-lap rule
To start the final 12-mile lap, you must check out from the start/finish area by 3:31 PM Sunday; the same moment Lap 8's cutoff lands. Runners not checked out by then do not start the final lap and are scored at their last completed lap distance.
From that 3:31 PM start, you'll have 3 hours 29 minutes to cover the shortened 12-mile final lap before the 7:00 PM Sunday race cutoff.
Cutoff policy
- Cutoffs are wall-clock times, posted at the lap-in/aid station table at the start/finish area.
- A runner who misses any lap cutoff is pulled from the course and scored at their last fully completed lap.
- The final lap is shorter (12 mi vs. 14 mi), plan your pacing for the early turnaround.
250K Course & laps
Runners complete eleven 14-mile laps, for a total of 155 miles (~250K). The 250K shares the same 14-mile loop and aid station as the 200K through lap 8, then continues on for three additional full laps before the short closing lap.
| Lap | Lap dist. | Cumulative | Cutoff |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | 14 mi | 14 mi | 11:04 AM Sat |
| 2 | 14 mi | 28 mi | 3:08 PM Sat |

| 10 | 14 mi | 140 mi | 11:39 PM Sun |
| 11 | 14 mi | 154 mi | 3:43 AM Mon last-lap start-by |
| 12 | 1 mi | 155 mi | 7:00 AM Mon — race cutoff |
Laps 5–6 and laps 9–10 fall overnight — expect the aid station to run on headlamp light both nights.
To start the final 1-mile lap, you must check out from the start/finish area by 3:43 AM Monday, the same moment Lap 11's cutoff lands. Runners not checked out by then do not start the final lap and are scored at their last completed lap distance.
From that 3:43 AM start, you'll have 3 hours 17 minutes to cover the shortened 1-mile final lap before the 7:00 AM Monday race cutoff.
Pace requirements
Lost Pines 200K and 250K are lap-format races with a steady cutoff pace built into every lap; there's no "banking time" early to coast later. Plan around these numbers:
|
17:24 /mi
200K required pace
|
17:24 /mi
250K required pace (laps 1–11)
|
3.4 mph
Equivalent speed
|
200K (124 mi): Hold roughly 17:24/mile (3.4 mph) average, including aid station stops, for the full 36-hour race. Every lap cutoff, including the shortened 12-mile final lap, is set to this same pace, so there's no lap that's more forgiving than another.
250K (155 mi): Hold that same ~17:24/mile pace through the first 154 miles (11 laps). The final mile then opens up into a generous 3-hour-17-minute window; plenty of room to walk it in and soak up the finish.
What this means for you: 17:24/mile is a brisk, steady hiking pace; very doable for a trained ultra runner, but it doesn't leave much margin for a long break, a bad patch, or extended time at aid stations. If you plan to run parts of the course, build in a buffer; if you're a strong hiker, this pace should feel sustainable start to finish as long as you keep moving.
Cutoffs are wall-clock, posted at the lap-in table. Miss one and you're pulled and scored at your last completed lap.
