The Ultra & Distance Day
Autumn Harvest Last Standing | Bastrop Backyard 32
Start: 9:00 AM | Cutoff: 32 hours | Distance: 4.17-mile loop, up to 24 loops (~100 miles) Format: Last Person Standing with cumulative time tiebreaker. Field Cap: 50 runners. One loop. One hour. Last runner standing wins. 24 hours at Lake Bastrop. Are you in?
The 9:00 AM start means you'll run the Gidoen Loop starting from the Basecamp, through one full day, one full night, and into a second morning. Sunset falls around 7:15 PM, approximately 10 hours and 2 loops into the race. Runners must have mandatory night gear ready before the 7:00 PM loop.
If you're the last runner standing, you'll complete a victory lap to claim the win. If multiple runners survive to 9:00 AM Sunday, the lowest cumulative time wins, and yes, they still have to complete a victory lap.
Run until you can't. Then run one more.
Course: 1× Gideon Loop via Swift Trail . Aid stations every 2.1 miles, full support at start/finish.
The Loblolly Redemption
Mini Backyard Ultra

You can't register for the Redemption. You can only be sent there. See below for more details.

The Loblolly Redemption Mini Backyard Ultra
The Loblolly Redemption
"You died on the main course. Welcome to your second life."
The Loblolly Redemption is not a race you sign up for. It's a race you earn the hard way, by getting dropped from the main backyard ultra.
When you fail to complete your loop on the Autumn Harvest Last Standing main course, your race isn't over. It's different. Walk to the Loblolly basecamp, lace up, and start running the 5.1 km Loblolly Loop on the next hourly bell. Same format. Smaller loop. New field. Last person standing wins.
You can't register for the Redemption. You can only be sent there.
How It Works
The main event feeds the mini. The mini runs on the same clock.
You Get Dropped
You fail to complete a main backyard loop (6.706 km / 4.167 mi) before the hourly bell. Your main race is over.
You Walk to Loblolly
Report to the Loblolly Redemption basecamp. Check in with the Redemption timer. Participation is optional — you may also retire completely.
You Start at the Next Bell
When the next hourly bell sounds, you start the Loblolly Loop (5.1 km / 3.17 mi) alongside any other dropped runners. Same bell as the main course — one clock governs both races.
You Keep Going
Every hour, you run the Loblolly Loop. Fail to finish before the bell and you're out — for real this time. No mini-mini. No third chances.
Last One Standing Wins
The Loblolly Redemption ends when the main backyard ultra ends (up to 32 hours from the opening bell). The last dropped runner still completing Loblolly loops at that moment wins the Redemption.

Official Rules
Read every word. There are no third chances.
1. Eligibility
Only runners registered for the Autumn Harvest Last Standing main backyard ultra are eligible for The Loblolly Redemption. There is no separate registration. You enter the Redemption by being eliminated from the main event. No unregistered runners, spectators, pacers, or crew may participate.
2. Entry Trigger
A runner is eligible for the Redemption the moment they fail to complete a main backyard loop before the hourly bell, or voluntarily withdraw from the main event. The runner must verbally confirm entry with the Redemption timer at the Loblolly basecamp before the next bell.
3. Voluntary Participation
Entering the Redemption is optional. Dropped runners may choose to retire completely. However, once a runner starts their first Redemption loop, they are committed to the Redemption format and subject to its elimination rules.
4. Start Time
Redemption runners start each loop on the same hourly bell as the main backyard. There is one universal clock. A runner dropped from the main event at, say, the Hour 8 bell may begin their first Redemption loop at the Hour 9 bell.
5. The Loop
The Redemption loop is the Loblolly Loop via Swift Trail, approximately 5.1 km (3.17 miles), starting and finishing at the Loblolly basecamp. The course is marked and must be followed in its entirety. No shortcuts. No course modifications.
6. Elimination
A Redemption runner who fails to return to the Loblolly basecamp before the next hourly bell is eliminated. This elimination is final. There is no further consolation event.
7. Skipping Loops
Redemption runners may not skip loops. Once entered, a runner must start every subsequent loop at the bell. Failure to start is treated as failure to finish — elimination.
8. Event Termination
The Loblolly Redemption ends when the main Autumn Harvest Last Standing ends, either when a main event winner is declared, or when the 32-hour race cap is reached, whichever comes first. All Redemption loops in progress at termination are completed and counted.
9. Redemption Winner
The last Redemption runner still completing loops at the time of event termination wins The Loblolly Redemption. If more than one runner is still standing at the end of 32 hours, the fastest runner wins, determined by lowest cumulative Redemption loop time across all completed loops. Every second you bank on every loop matters.
10. Aid & Support
The Loblolly basecamp will have water and basic aid. Redemption runners may use their own crew and drop bags at the Loblolly basecamp. Main event aid stations on the Gideon loop are not available to Redemption runners.
11. Headlamps & Safety
Headlamps are required for any loop started between sunset and sunrise. All main event safety rules, medical protocols, and race director authority apply equally to the Redemption.
12. No Additional Fee
The Loblolly Redemption is included in main event registration at no additional cost. It is a feature of the Autumn Harvest Last Standing, not a separate event.
The Drama: Example Scenarios
Early dropouts grind volume. Late dropouts arrive battle-hardened. Who wins?
| Runner | Dropped at | Main Loops | Main Distance | Max Redemption Loops | Max Redemption km |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Runner A | Hour 4 | 3 | 20.1 km | 28 | 142.8 km |
| Runner B | Hour 12 | 11 | 73.8 km | 20 | 102.0 km |
| Runner C | Hour 20 | 19 | 127.4 km | 12 | 61.2 km |
| Runner D | Hour 28 | 27 | 181.1 km | 4 | 20.4 km |
The tension: Runner A had fresh legs but has been grinding Loblolly for 28 hours. Runner D just ran 181 km on the main course and shows up wrecked, but only needs to survive 4 loops. Runner B sits in the middle, balancing accumulated fatigue against available loops. Who breaks first?
The answer changes every hour as new runners enter the Redemption field. The competitive landscape is constantly shifting.
Awards
Four ways to earn recognition across both events.

🏆
Last Standing — MainWinner of the Autumn Harvest Last Standing main backyard ultra. |
🔥
Last Standing — RedemptionLast runner still completing Loblolly loops when the event ends. You got knocked down and kept going. |
|
⚡
Iron RunnerHighest total combined distance across main loops + Redemption loops. The person who ran the most trail all day. |
💥
Redemption King / QueenMost Redemption loops completed, regardless of when dropped from the main event. Pure Loblolly volume. |
Combined Distance Examples
Main loop (6.706 km) + Redemption loop (5.1 km) = total trail.
| Runner | Main Loops | Redemption Loops | Total Distance |
|---|---|---|---|
| Runner A (dropped hr 4) | 3 × 6.7 = 20.1 km | 28 × 5.1 = 142.8 km | 162.9 km |
| Runner B (dropped hr 12) | 11 × 6.7 = 73.8 km | 20 × 5.1 = 102.0 km | 175.8 km |
| Runner C (dropped hr 20) | 19 × 6.7 = 127.4 km | 12 × 5.1 = 61.2 km | 188.6 km |
| Runner D (dropped hr 28) | 27 × 6.7 = 181.1 km | 4 × 5.1 = 20.4 km | 201.5 km |
| Main Winner (32 hrs) | 31 × 6.7 = 207.9 km | — | 207.9 km |
Notice: Runner B or C could actually exceed the main winner's total distance by grinding Redemption laps. The Iron Runner award exists for exactly this reason, it's possible for a "loser" to cover more ground than the winner.
You Can't Sign Up for Redemption
Register for the Autumn Harvest Last Standing. If you make it all 32 hours, you'll never see Loblolly. If you don't, the Redemption is waiting.
Questions You'll Ask
Can I register for just the Redemption?
No. You must register for the main Autumn Harvest Last Standing. The Redemption only exists because the main event creates it.
Is there an additional fee?
No. The Redemption is included in your main event registration.
Do I have to enter the Redemption if I get dropped?
No. It's entirely optional. You can retire, eat tacos, and cheer from the sideline. But the loop will be there, calling you.
What if I get dropped from the main at Hour 30?
You can enter the Redemption at Hour 31. If the main event ends at Hour 32, you get at most 1–2 Redemption loops. That's the tradeoff, lasting longer in the main means fewer Redemption opportunities. Choose your suffering.
Can my crew help me on the Loblolly Loop?
Your crew can be at the Loblolly basecamp between loops. They cannot be on the course. Same rules as the main event.
What if the main event ends while I'm mid-loop?
You finish your current loop. It counts toward your total.
Has anyone ever done this before?
Not that we know of. You're the guinea pigs. Congratulations.
