Good afternoon! As I'm sure you've realized by now, the government is highly restricting any events in order to slow down the spread of the COVID-19 virus. At first, our small, but mighty race was not affected by these restrictions, but hour by hour we have been resolved to smaller and smaller gatherings in order to keep everyone safe. I have made the decision to move our March 28th 5k event to a virtual one. As a runner, the feeling of running alongside other runners motivates and challenges me, as I'm sure it does for you. In this time of mandated social distancing, we continue to need this encouragement to get out and stay active. We just have to get creative on how to get that same encouragement from our fellow runners. So, we are encouraging everyone to post their virtual 5k runs on Facebook in our event: https://www.facebook.com/pg/cothmissionstx/events/?ref=page_internal with the hashtag #irantherace2020.
How to Run a Virtual 5K
Run a virtual race to support COTH Missions in six easy steps!
1. Let us know on the COTH Missions Facebook Event when you plan to run your virtual race.
Go to https://www.facebook.com/pg/cothmissionstx/events/?ref=page_internal and post your date. Way to be accountable folks!!!!
2. Invite your friends!
Share your goal on Facebook and invite friends to join you virtually on your run or walk! Do this by live casting to Facebook or Instagram while you run or by taking video and posting it! The more community you have (virtually) the better! Don't forget that hashtag #irantherace2020
3. Map out your route ahead of time (3.11 miles for a 5K run). Or run on your treadmill at home! (no tracker needed for this option)
Use a free online tracking tool like MapMyRun or Google Maps (free account creation required) to plan your route before the big day. A really good option is the Red Oak Creek Trail in Cedar Hill which has almost exactly 3.1 miles of concrete trails!
4. Download a mobile fitness tracking app to live-track and log your race. (unless you're on the treadmill)
Download a mobile run-tracking app like MapMyRun or Nike+ Training Club and create an account as directed. Practice logging your route and taking a screenshot of your completed route so you are prepared for race day. Unsure how to screenshot? Let these helpful tutorials guide you:

5. Race day! #irantherace2020
Equipped with running gear (charged cell phone, smartwatch, or fitness tracker), run or walk your selected route and have fun! Don't forget to document it and share it online.
6. Submit your participation to our Facebook event by April 31, 2020.
This gives you one month to get out there and be active! Submissions should include a screenshot of your completed run and race photos. Don't forget your hashtag #irantherace2020
Submit your activity here: https://www.facebook.com/pg/cothmissionstx/events/?ref=page_internal
Thank you again for your support of COTH Missions. All the proceeds from this race will go toward our mission trips, all donations are tax deductible. Additionally, all missions participants who signed up to run the race will have their monies transferred directly to their mission accounts. We will, in Jesus name, be back in 2021, hopefully on the beautiful and newly finished 1382 trail. Please keep an eye out for emails announcing our 2021 race. In the meantime, stay active and healthy and know that you are not alone. May the Lord bless you and keep you!
