Description
May is Mental Health Awareness Month, also known as Mental Health Month. It has been observed each May in the United States since 1949. It has never been more important than now to recognize that mental health is an essential component to one’s overall health and wellbeing, and that mental illnesses are common and treatable. While it may be that some of us are more vulnerable than others, everyone faces challenges in life that can impact their mental health. Research is very clear – physical health and mental health go hand in hand. Being active is not only great for your physical health and fitness. Evidence also shows it can also improve your mental wellbeing by causing chemical changes in your brain which can help to positively change your mood; raising your self-esteem & helping you to set goals or challenges and achieve them. Regular exercise can have a profoundly positive impact on depression, anxiety, and ADHD. It also relieves stress, improves memory, helps you sleep better, and boosts your overall mood. And you don’t have to be a fitness fanatic to reap the benefits.
Your DFW GP2W Committee is hosting the first Annual AECOM Mental Health Awareness Virtual 5k/10k! Complete the distance within the event dates, and record it using a running app (like Runkeeper or MapMyRun), or a GPS watch. Then post your results! There will be awards for fastest time and most creative route (must post screenshot of your route). Let's have some fun & friendly competition! And as a bonus you can earn wellness points! You will have 1 week to post your results. Make it a family event & have them sign up too!
