Description

We are so excited to bring a foot race back to Big Cedar Wilderness trails!

Love Never Ends presents the inaugural Great Root Trail Race.

Big Cedar Wilderness Trails is on the grounds of Mountain Creek Church. It is located atop one of the most breathtaking escarpment areas in North Texas. Situated on over 100 acres, our trails wind through cedar and hardwood forest and descend quickly into a valley in a dramatic elevation change. From the trails you can view iconic landmarks of the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex. Looking westward across the Trinity valley, the view is dominated by giant AT&T Stadium, The Ball Park in Arlington, Six Flags Family Park, and even the downtown Forth Worth skyline. Cedar Hill State Park, with its hills wrapping around a big lake, is the most prominent feature to the southwest.

Our course consists of an 11.2-ish mile loop that covers multiple trails that will include Texas Sunset, SXSW, Dragonfly, Copper Head Ridge, Ranger, and Barbwire. These trails are known for their challenging terrain, with varying elevation, technical trails, and natural obstacles like rocks, roots, and dirt. Runners of all levels can expect a tough but rewarding experience, as the event takes place in a beautiful but rugged natural setting. The race is not just a physical challenge but also an opportunity for trail runners to immerse themselves in nature.

Course Route Details:

The main race loop is 11ish miles. The 11 miler will cover one full race loop. The 22 miler will repeat the race course and complete two full race loops. The 33 miler will repeat the race course three times. The Great Root Trail Race loop consists of multiple Big Cedar Wilderness Trail Dorba segments (in race order): 1 - Texas Sunset  2 - SXSW (South-by-SouthWest  3 - Dragonfly  4 - Ranger  5 - Copperhead Ridge  6 - Ranger  7 - Barbwire  8 - Ranger  9 - Service road to finish lineThe race course consists of six of the very popular trail segments at the Big Cedar Wilderness Trail location on the property of Mountain Creek Church. The race starts at the newly added pavilion and winds along the very challenging Texas Sunset section of the trail. From there racers will find themselves on the "SXSW" segment known as South-by-Southwest, and will continue along until they drop out on the service road by the parking, from there racers will follow the service road and jump onto Dragonfly, proceed back onto the service road and jump on the iconic Ranger section. After navigating some rolling and rocky climbs and descents, racers will then merge onto Copperhead Ridge, winding through the park before jumping back onto Ranger. Racers will then stay on Ranger through some winding climbs and head into the Barbwire section of the trails. The race course will continue to loop through Barbwire and will spill back out onto Ranger again. Racers will stay on Ranger, climb the infamous brick climb and then loop back onto the original race course passing runners that are restarting their loops. Once the runners get to the service road, they will take a hard right onto the main road and back to the start/finish line. You can expect approximately 1500 ft. of elevation change (gain/loss) per race course loop. Or about 3,000 ft. for the 22 mile race, and 4500 ft. for the 33 mile race. All course sections and the overall race course loop are counterclockwise.
