What is Kelly Memorial Food Pantry? What is our FreshStart program? What is our HEAL program?

Kelly Memorial Food Pantry is an independent non-profit food pantry serving El Paso families. Our average monthly count of families served in 2019 was 2,500. Since COVID, our average weekly number of families served is 5000. COVID has exorbitantly impacted El Pasoans, and we are extremely thankful for El Pasoans Fighting Hunger for their daily donations of food to distribute to our community.

Kelly also serves the community through its elaborate and comprehensive FreshStart program, the second of its kind in the US. FreshStart recruits members from the Kelly line looking for potential members who are willing to work on three tangible goals that could help them, and their families no longer need the Kelly Pantry for food. The team is staffed with social workers who use motivational interviewing to connect clients with resources, jobs, and health care in the El Paso community. Currently, FreshStart has about 100 members working towards their goals for food, housing, and work security. If you can share information provided about FreshStart, that would also be amazing. I'm sure members of our EP community could use a robust program such as this during these times.

The HEAL Program through FreshStart stands for Healthy Eating Active Living. This program works directly with FreshStart clients to promote healthy eating, specifically fruit and vegetable consumption and portion control. The HEAL program increases physical activity in our clients and works with clients to make plans of exercise, lifestyle, and diet changes. Through casework and motivational interviewing, the HEAL program works to advance systems of change designed to improve healthy eating or active living outcomes.

This event, in part, is to promote Healthy Eating and Active Living in all of our Kelly family and community. All of us getting out and moving could do wonders on our mental health, self-perception, and leaning away from a sedentary lifestyle.

Learn more about our Pantry and FreshStart team are also featured on our Instagram and Facebook pages for Kelly and our FreshStart Program. Here is the link to our website.

Event Details

Sign-up using our website on runsignup.com. Donate your admission price to FreshStart and prepare to walk, run, bike, or dance a distance of your choosing between November 4th and November 30th. Sign-up by November 30th!

Prizes available for 1st, 2nd & 3rd place! Participants can use their favorite free running app to track times and upload proof of results. In order to receive prizes, participants will be asked to provide proof of time and distance. Proof of results can be GPS files or screenshots from the app.

Where to walk? Around your own home! In your neighborhood. In a park of your choice. As long as your legs are moving and grooving, that's what counts. Remember to social distance and follow CDC COVID safety guidelines. Though you may complete your chosen distance to run/walk in around our agency at 915 N Florence St., we encourage all participants to stay as COVID cautious as possible and hopefully make your run in and around your own neighborhood.

Holiday Trot Kit distribution will begin as we acquire our Holiday Trot t-shirts courtesy of Proper Print Shop. Information about the shirts will be provided as we know it!
