Tips for RFID Event Timed Events:

1. Place the bib or chip as directed. Most RFID chips are placed directly on the race bib. Place the bib on the front of your shirt, preferably in the middle of your chest. For races with shoe or bracelet RFID chips, place them exactly as directed. Placing your bib anywhere else can lead to it not being read, wrong time, or disqualification from the event.

2. Don't bend or fold your bib. Bending or folding the bib can result in the RFID chip being damaged or cause malfunctions.
With MJM or Orbiter events, a black rubber strip is placed on top of the RFID chip. This is an additional step we do to ensure the chip is protected. Majority of RFID chips placed directly on to the race bib will have some protective material over it. If you are able to see a metallic chip on your race bib, place notify someone ASAP.

3. Talk to the race registration table or race director before switching bibs or races. Switching bibs is normally not allowed and can results in issues with the results.

4. If race day registration is available, sign up at least 15 minutes before the race start time! This will ensure your time is included in the unofficial / race day results.

5. Make sure you cross the sensor at the start / finish line. If you don't cross in front of the sensor, it can't capture your race time. If you want to return to the course so you can complete it with a friend, you are more than welcome too! Just pass the sensor before turning around to find your friend.

6. If you want to gather around the finish line after the race, please remove your bib. This will remove any remote chance of the chip being registered by the sensor again.

7. Give the race timer and race director time to put together the results, gathering around or asking questions about an individual time, slows the unofficial results process down. If you believe you are a top finished or won your age bracket but need to leave early, please see the race director.

8. No system or method of race timing is perfect, mistakes happen. Most errors are caught during the initial result screening. Unofficial results may contain errors and that is why Official Results take long times to publish. If there is an error, please bring it up calmly to the race director. Be able to say who (what bib numbers) you finished around and or what time your GPS watch, map my run, or strava has. Please remember GPS based tracking and RFID will have a time difference normally of a few seconds or up to 2 minutes.

9. Always check to make sure there are not any special race instructions. Certain type of races or RFID systems may have different requirements. Check the race rules to be on the safe side!

By following these simple steps, we can all work together to ensure RFID timed races are accurate with majority of errors being avoided.

We want every race experience to be a positive one and no matter what, please remember these events benefit a cause. MJM is trying to identify the best, most cost effective way for races to be accurately timed, while providing charities the lowest timing service fees.

Good or bad, we learn from every event!

Mike
