FUN FACT: FORT WORTH – “PANTHER CITY”

In 1875, Fort Worth earned the nickname “Panther City”. A former lawyer, Robert E. Cowart, described the city as so quiet after economic disaster and a harsh winter that he saw a panther asleep in the street. Although meant as an insult, the name stuck when Fort Worth recovered in 1876, and today many local businesses and organizations proudly use the Panther in their name.
