The Harvest Marathon Relay is a 26.2-mile timed team running event. Due to the current COVD-19 situation, the 2020 Harvest Marathon Relay will be a multi-location, social distanced, multi-location, competitive event.
When: The race will start at 7:00 AM on November 8, 2020. Teams will have 3-hours to complete the event.
Where: Teams can run wherever and whenever they chose, as long as it is between 7:00 and 10:00 central standard time on the day of the race. There are no limitations as to how many team members can run at any given time.
How: Time and distance for each team member will be tracked using an app provided by our official timer. Individual results will be consolidated into a team resolution. As soon as the cumulative mileage for the team reaches 26.2 miles, then the team is deemed to have completed the event and will have an official time. The app allows you to track your team performance in real time, and track other teams.
What: The big difference this year is that each participant will be able to run only one segment, i.e., once a participant stops their app, they will not be able to restart it and post an additional time.
A note to the Competitive Teams: STRATEGY IS IMPORTANT!
We brainstormed some potential questions. If you have any questions, please use the Questions? button located on this page.
Q. How many team members can be running at any given time?
A. The app is set up so it can track all of the runners at the same time. Unless your team can average a 6:52 per mile pace, you won’t finish in time unless you have multiple people running at the same time.
Q. How is the team’s finishing time calculated?
A. Your official finishing time is based on when your team’s cumulative distance reaches 26.2 miles.
Q. How are the winners determined for time-based awards?
A. Time-based awards are based on the fastest times to get to a team’s cumulative distance of 26.2 miles. For instance, if a team starts all 10 members at 7:00 AM and they run at an 8 minute per mile pace, they will be done by 7:21 AM with a finishing time of 3:29:36. If a different team starts all 10 members at 9:00 AM and they run at a 7:54 minute per mile pace, they will be done at 9:21 am with a finishing time of 3:26:59. Even though the first team finished earlier, the second team took less time to get to 26.2 miles and is therefore the faster team.
