Description

This year, we are holding the race a week earlier than usual, which makes it a perfect time to celebrate Halloween!  Wear a costume!  There will be an award given randomly for a costumed runner!  Fun!

THIS IS A BEAUTIFUL COURSE AND WE ARE DELIGHTED TO HAVE YOU!  PLEASE READ THIS THOROUGHLY AS EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW TO HAVE A GREAT RACE EXPERIENCE CAN BE FOUND HERE.
Half Marathon and 10K,
take on the challenge of a bridge 5,032 feet in length and 165 feet above the Sabine-Neches Canal, come right back over the bridge and then enjoy cruising around the rest of the island.
2 Mile participants, enjoy the speed of a flat, fast course. No bridge for you!
Overall and Age group trophies for all three distances.
Finisher's Medals for Half Marathon and 10K finishers. The course time limit is 3 hours. This means you would have to hold at least a 13 minute mile to do the half marathon distance. If you cannot hold this pace or faster, we suggest you register for the 10K. The 10K also goes over the bridge.

Understand that the park does not have a physical address, so we used the address of the Pleasure Island Commission Office, which will put you past the race parking, but you will see parking before you arrive at the office.  If you type Jared N. Logan Park, Pleasure Island, Port Arthur Texas into any GOOGLE MAPS, it will pull up the location.  The bridge starts to shut down around 7AM.  There are only two ways on and off the island so expect traffic delays.  Look at the map early and plan your route and arrival time.  Everyone is going to be arriving with you.

This course is open to slow moving traffic.  We completely close one lane of the bridge.  The entire race takes place on Pleasure Island.  The course views are beautiful.  Parking is close and free.
Stocked aid stations and portajohns approximately every mile.

Awards: 5 Year Age Groups. Everyone who finishes the 10K or the Half Marathon receives a finisher’s medal for conquering the bridge. Everyone who registers receives a custom race shirt while supplies last. They are given out on a first come, first serve basis at packet pick up.  We do offer race day packet pick up, but you will want to pick up your items at packet pick up at SSSAH-Fit Lab- 3824 N Twin City Hwy, Nederland, TX 77627 on Friday, October 26th between 3PM-8PM if possible.  Race day packet pick up is entirely dependent on volunteer manpower and is very busy.  Race day registration is available, but understand you will be facing the same conditions.

Packet pick up on race week is held at SSAH (Sports Society for American Health) Fit Lab, 3824 N Twin City Highway, Nederland, TX 77627.

Hampton Inn and Suites information: 7660 Memorial Blvd, Port Arthur, TX 77642  Phone: (409) 722-6999 They do offer special rates for race guests. This is not the race start location.

We have a Kids' Half Marathon program available at no extra charge. Kids must register and complete the Kinsel Ford 2 Mile distance to qualify for the program.  Kids log 11 miles or hours of activity, register, and complete the 2 Mile distance and earn a half marathon medal!  Logs should include: Parent's name and email, child's name and age, miles logged and dates. Submit logs to kidsclub@thegushermarathon.com

WE DO NOT OFFER DISCOUNTS AS WE WORK TO KEEP REGISTRATION PRICES LOW FOR EVERYONE.  WE FEEL IT IS THE MOST FAIR POLICY.   YOUR RACE ENTRIES ARE A DONATION TO SPORTS SOCIETY FOR AMERICAN HEALTH, which is a 501(c)3 working to improve quality of life as well as health and fitness through direct opportunity.  If you do have a special need, we will offer a small amount of free entries to those truly in need. You must be able to prove your income or life restriction.

Thank you for choosing to race with us.  We value your experience.  Every participant matters!
