Goya Cares is your presenting sponsor for the first annual Britta's Chase 5K in the Wild - a race run entirely inside San Antonio’s award winning Zoo! This 5K launches the Meant to Soar Foundation, a non profit 501 (c)(3).
Serious runners grab serious cash! Walkers and joggers, enjoy animals in their morning routines! We will award unique Texas-shaped finisher medals, along with special medals for different age groups and the top three performers in both male and female categories. Britta's Chase is a unique event. Our entire 5K will be run in the zoo. Also, we are introducing a "cash chase challenge!" $100 bills will be handed out during the race at the 1, 2, and 3.1 (finish) mile markers to the male and female runners who are currently in the lead. Additionally, extra $100 bills will be given to each male who runs under 16 minutes and each female who runs under 19 minutes. Come have some fun while you chase down some cash!
Meant To Soar supports children - who through no fault of their own, have experienced trauma from parental drug / alcohol addiction, or scarring from human trafficking.
Fractures of the heart often surface once safe in a child’s new safe environment. Through Meant To Soar, our challenge is to see these children not only survive the critical developmental years, but to be over-comers and to soar in the fullness as they were created. Just as kites are meant to soar, every child has been created by God to soar in life. Every participant in Britta's Chase will be given a Meant to Soar kite.
There will be three laps all inside the zoo with plenty of signage and course marshals to make sure that you stay on course! This is a really fun course with music, water misters, animals watching you run, lights in the trees, and elite runners passing the recreational ones to collect the cash first!
FAQ
The 5K BEGINS at 7:00 am, so make sure that you are there early enough, before 6:30, to get warmed up and ready to run. Zoo officials may lock the gate at 7 am and we don't want you to be locked out.
PACKET PICKUP - Packet pickup will be from 3:00 pm – 7:00 pm at the Fleet Feet - Alamo Quarry Market at 7322 Jones Maltsberger Rd, San Antonio, TX 78209. We will have hundreds of people in the 5K. If possible, visit Fleet Feet on Friday to pick up your swag bag which includes your t-shirt, bib, and other goodies. You are allowed to pick up packets for friends and family members.
Please note. The t-shirts will be “gender specific” according to your registration. Females will receive “ladies’ style” shirts.
PARKING - You can park at the San Antonio Zoo parking at 3903 N. Saint Mary’s St., San Antonio, TX 78212 – Park in the parking lot nearest the train depot and Starbucks. Plan to get to the lot no later than 6:20 am so that you can have enough time to walk through the entrance and get to the starting line on time.
ENTRANCE – Enter through the BLUE gate at the Zoo.
VOLUNTEERS – Do you know someone who may not want to run, but would like to volunteer? We still need some help! Send them to www.brittaschase.com and click on the “Volunteer” tab. As a “thank you” we are providing them with free admission to the zoo for the rest of the day.
DONATIONS – If you have donated or would like to donate to Meant to Soar and would like to spend the day at the zoo, email mike@others.app and let us know so that we can set aside a wrist band for you. We will have 50 wrist bands available that we have purchased for $17 each. You can see the "DONATE" button above.
ZOO ADMISSION – We have access to the zoo until 9:00 am and then must leave. If you would like to stay and enjoy the zoo for longer, we have secured discount admission tickets for only $16.99.
To purchase tickets:
- Click on "Profile" at the top right of this page.
- Scroll down until you see “Britta’s Chase” and click on “Manage Registration.”
- On the next screen, click on “ADD-ONS” at the top.
- Select the quantity of tickets that you want to purchase and select “Continue” to check out.
CASH GRAB – We’re adding a fun competitive element to Britta’s Chase. If you are fast enough to be in the lead, at least through the first mile, make sure that you are on the starting line. The first male and female to get to the one-mile marker first will get a $100 bill, along with the second mile, and finish. (Someone may get to the one-mile marker first and need to walk the rest! It doesn’t matter. The cash goes to the first one there!)
PRIZE MONEY – At least $600 will be given out (first males and females in the lead at first two mile markers and finish.) Additional $100 bills will be given out to all males who run under 16 minutes (15:59 or faster) and all females who run under 19 minutes (18:59 or faster.) If you know any fast runners, tell them about our race! They could walk away with some serious cash!
