Meet a Miracle: 2019 Miracle Child, Blake

We run for all kids that come through the doors of all CHRISTUS Trinity Mother Frances Health System hospitals and clinics. Kids like 2019 Miracle Child, Blake Barney.

When Blake didn’t cry at birth, her doctors were immediately concerned. Her parents started noticing developmental delays at four months old, and Blake underwent genetic testing.  In May of 2018, she received the diagnosis of EBF3-HADDS.  EBF3-HADDS is a very rare and newly diagnosed syndrome, discovered in 2016.  At this time, there are only about one hundred known cases of EBF3-HADDS in the world, Blake being one of the youngest children to ever be diagnosed.  Symptoms of EBF3-HADDS include low muscle tone, delayed development, impaired coordination, decreased mobility, lack of smile and laugh, and speech delay.

Blake loves music, playing with her big sister and balloons!  Since studies have only begun on the long term effects of EBF3-HADDS, Blake’s family is taking life one day at a time and enjoying every moment.  So lace up your shoes to help make miracles for kids like Blake!
