Description

The 6th Annual Volley for Molly is going back to our very 1st event (2012- the year Molly went to see Jesus) to Miles for Molly!  Miles for Molly will be virtual due to COVID-19 safety reasons and gyms being closed for volleyball tournaments.  Miles for Molly can be a 5K walk or run, 1-mile walk, bike ride, swim, yoga or whatever you enjoy doing in honor of Molly and her legacy of hope.  This can even be cheering from the sidelines in your chair.  As you will see on our T-shirts for this year when you register our theme is "Walk in Truth", the explanation is below. If you don't know Molly's story please read below.

Molly Martinsen was born on October 24, 2000 to Dan and Jennifer Martinsen. She has an older brother (Ben) who called her “Babes” when he first visited her in the hospital after her birth. Molly spent her short life embracing ALL sports. She excelled in everything, but she fell in love with volleyball. In the summer of 2011, she was diagnosed with a rare malignant brain cancer originating from her brain stem. She underwent a grueling 12-hour surgery and months of rehab. She fought to regain her motor functions and was even able to help the Lady Eagles 5th grade volleyball team at Waco Baptist Academy (now Eagle Christian) a few months after her surgery. In April, the tumor began growing again, and on May 10, 2012, she went to Heaven and was embraced by Jesus. Molly lived her life with great courage and passion. Her faith was very strong, and even in her darkest hours, she said “God has a plan for my life”. She defended the underdog and loved people well. She was funny with a twinkle in her eye and a beautiful smile that lit up a room. She was a talented artist who loved lots of color and thick paint! Her fun-loving personality, amazing strength and courage, and her faith marked her life and left a lasting legacy.

  • Walk In Truth is our Theme for Miles for Molly this year!
  • Why does this simple command remind me of Molly?
  • Because Molly walked in truth!
  • Molly battled cancer bravely and she clung to her faith in Jesus Christ fiercely.
  • She never wavered or doubted that God was good, and she confirmed her faith as death drew nearer.  She was baptized by her pastor in her backyard pool as a testimony of her saving belief.
  • Molly was joyfully carried into the water by Pastor Wayne, when cancer left her too weak to walk because she knew the one who walked on water.
  • Jesus was Molly’s hope then and today Molly wants to speak the truth to you!
  • She would tell you -Jesus was born of a virgin -Jesus was the son of God -Jesus lived a sinless life- Jesus died on the cross for our sins- Jesus was raised from the dead- Jesus sits at the right hand of God- and Jesus is coming again.
  • Molly is with Jesus today!
