Description

Virtual 5K (run, walk or 45 minutes of exercise of your choice) to support  our sister Michelle Shackelford's battle with Stage 4 Gall Bladder Cancer.  Race hosted by Sherri Shumard, Judi Blair and Brenda Cook.

Why Mustard Seed- Our mother always wore a mustard seed that her grandmother gave to her. Our mother survived polio as a child and had faith that moved mountains. She taught her daughters the parable of the mustard seed but more so she lived the parable of the mustard seed. My sister Michelle is fierce like Momma and has overcome many obstacles in life with grace and hope. My sister Michelle is a fighter, she is strong, perhaps the strongest person I know. I have watched her handle, survive and Flourish against insurmountable odds. Picking herself up and always moving forward with love and hope.

With toddler Raegan in tow- she fought for my nephew Justin during his 4 year battle with Leukemia. Her strength and love a constant that grounded the family during this difficult time. When Justin died, she continued to be the strength for her family, raising a toddler to an amazing young woman. Starting a Scholarship Fund that is awarded to graduating Bonham seniors in memory of Justin. She has supported Raegan through 10 years of softball, being the World’s Best Softball Mom (if you believe her t-shirts) as Raegan played, recreational, select and on national teams. Always finding a way to support Raegan’s dream, she had tears in her eyes and a big ass grin on her face as Raegan signed her letter of intent to play college softball. She has triumphed.

On July 4, 2020 she had what she thought would be a routine gall bladder removal. It was not. Within a week they had diagnosed her with Gall Bladder Cancer. Within 2 weeks she had a blood borne infection, sepsis and was in ICU fighting for her life. She is a fighter. She survived and was discharged bacteria free and ready to fight the cancer. On August 14, she took her daughter to college to play college ball, a lifetime dream for Raegan, and Michelle. The scholarship necessary for Raegan to go to school and to realize her dream to be a nurse. Michelle’s cancer is aggressive and her treatment will be at MD Anderson in Texas. She has insurance, but it does not cover all of the travel expenses to and from her home in Bonham to MD Anderson in Houston. They are struggling to make the ends meet during this difficult time. She now has the added expenses of travel to and from Houston. Our goal is to raise money to help pay for travel expenses to and from Houston during this difficult time. We have set a goal of raising 1500 dollars.
