Teal Diva 5k for Ovarian & Other Gynecologic Cancers

The Teal Diva Championship Belt 

Are you a CHAMPION for Gynecologic Cancer Awareness?  PROVE IT! Participate in the 5k event, earn points in 3 categories: Awareness, Fundraising/Sponsorship, and Participation to compete for a chance to win the Teal Diva Championship Belt. The team/ company/ individual with the highest overall points will win the Teal Diva Championship Belt. The winner will have their team’s name engraved and displayed in their home or place of business until the next Teal Diva Charlotte 5k race date. Here are the details...

Category One:  Community/Awareness Engagement

A part of our mission is spreading community awareness. There is currently no screening test for ovarian cancer, and it is imperative for women to know the symptoms of this disease. Here are just a few examples to get you started thinking about how you can be a CHAMPION for ovarian cancer awareness:

• 1 point per passive engagement – passive meaning no face-to-face contact
  • Posting to social media
    • Ex: posting symptoms, statistics, or anything Teal Diva and 5K related
    • 1 point per platform and per post (must be made on different days)
    • Must use hashtags too
      • Use #tealdivachampion
      • Use #(your team name)
  • Place a sign(s) in yardex: race signage, symptoms signage, etc
    You can supply or if local, Teal Diva has some while supplies last
• 3 points for active engagement – this is face-to-face interactionParticipating in events that spread awareness and sending pictures and information to Shannon of your participation 
• 3 points for active engagement – this is face-to-face interaction
  • Participating in events that spread awareness and sending pictures and information to Shannon of your participation
  • Could be a church function or any place you might set up a table
  • Share your story publicly or speak on behalf of Teal Diva
• 5 points for active dual engagement/creative engagement
  • Fundraising event for your team or Teal Diva that spreads awareness
  • Send pictures and any information about event to Shannon
• Follow AND tag the corresponding Teal Diva handle to at least ONE of the following platforms you prefer posting on:
  • Facebook: Teal Diva @TealDiva
  • Instagram: @tealdiva_ovca
  • Twitter: @TealDivaNC
    • Use #tealdivachampion
    • Use #(your team name)

Category 2:  Fundraising/Sponsorship

The 5k is a fundraiser and Teal Diva operates solely from donations. Here are just a few examples to get you started thinking about how you can be a CHAMPION in this category. Choose ONE at a minimum. Multiple choices will earn your team additional points.

• One point for every $100 raised
• Secure a sponsor for the event and we will include their sponsorship dollars towards your team's goal
  • You will get credit for every $100
  • You get 5 points for each sponsor secured
  • Review 2023 Sponsor Info tab for the sponsor packet
• For any person who commits to giving a minimum of $25 monthly for one year on the Teal Diva website (not the race site) and mentions your team’s name, you will receive 10 points
• Host a fundraiser and get extra points. Examples of Fundraisers (*can be done virtually) think outside the box, anything can be a fundraiser!
  • Garage Sale (ex: put Teal Diva sign in your yard to show what you are raising $ for)
  • Partner with local shops/restaurants for a “shop/eat for Teal Diva night”
  • Host a movie night, outdoor movie night with projector and white sheet, charge admission (ex: play a video before the movie about Teal Diva/ovarian cancer/Lowcountry 5K)
  • Speak with boss/administrator to set up a Jeans Day/Dress down day at work (have employees donate $ to the 5K to get a dress-down day at work)
  • Latte Fundraiser-ask friends/family/coworkers to donate their coffee costs for the week
  • Krispy Kreme Doughnut Sale

 
Category Three:  Participation

Let's face it, the more people that show up, dress up and are pumped up, makes for a better event! Better videos...better photos...all of which helps our message about gynecologic cancers reach more people! Here are just a few examples of how you can be a CHAMPION in this category:

• 5 points per person for those who participate in a team costume (tutu’s, wigs, boas, costumes, etc)
  • Take a picture and email it to Shannon to show your team's participation to get your points
• 10 points for best decorated TEAL-gating tent for qualifying teams of 10 participants or more
  • You must supply your own tent
  • Contact Shannon about ordering your team's personalized banner (additional fee)
• In person participation - 2 points for every team member participating on the day of the race
  • Send your team's race day photo to Shannon
• Virtual participation - 1 point for each person participating virtually  
  • Take a picture and email it to Shannon to show your team's participation to get your points.
