SWIM: 1.2 mile Ocean Swim
The swim course will be wetsuit legal with water temperatures expected to be in the upper 60s to low 70s. The swim will be a beach start with swimmers swimming out to a turn buoy about 15 - 20 meters off shore and making a turn to swim parallel to the shore for the overwhelming majority of the 1.2 mile course. A second turn will take bring swimmers back to shore for the swim finish. The swim will be positioned so it is with the tide and the direction of swim will be determined race morning. Either way the swim finish will be at the Edisto Beach State Park. Swim shuttles will take athletes to the swim start starting at 7AM. These shuttles will run until 7:45AM. There is no gear drop off at the swim start. Athletes may be dropped off at the swim start location. NOTE: If the current is pushing NORTH to SOUTH athletes will have to walk to the swim start as there is no roadway access north of the State Park. Based on tidal charts we do not expect this to be the case and we expect to swim South to North.
BIKE: 56 miles Flat, Fast, 2 Loops
The bike course is a two loop affair and is flat and fast. Leaving the State Park athletes will head north on Hwy 174. A bike lane is available as athletes travel on Hwy 174. There will be a few shoots off Hwy 174 where athletes will get the bulk of the 28 mile per lap distance. Each of these off shoots will contain a turn around point where athletes must come to a near complete stop. Other than these locations there are very few turns and the course is VERY fast. Lap 1 will end with a loop around the upper portion of Edisto Beach before heading out onto Hwy 174 to repeat the same course as Lap 1. The Bike finish is 3 miles from the State Park at Bay Creek Park. THE 2022 COURSE HAS BEEN UPDATED TO ELIMINATE SEVERAL TURNS AND TURN AROUND POINTS.
RUN: 13.1 miles Flat, Fast, 2 Out and Back, 2 Loops
The run course is also a two loop affair with an out and back layout. Runners will make their way from T2 onto Myrtle Street which stretches along the interior of the island between the ocean and the bay. The course is FLAT and FAST. For those familiar with Edisto, the route will take runners by Whaley's Bar & Grill 4 times and will also feature a segment inside the Wyndham Property, home to Edisto's Golf Course. The finish line will be at Bay Creek Park alongside T2 and all post race festivities will take place here with picturesque views of the Bay.
TRANSITIONS: Point to Point with Transitions being 3 miles apart
The Edisto Island Triathlon is "technically" a point-to-point event with T1 and T2 being spaced 3 miles apart. However, both transitions are on Edisto Beach and are VERY easy to get to. If you are leaving straight away after your finish, you will drive right by T1 on your way out of town. All bags from Transition 1 will be moved to Transition 2 for you following the swim..
