Training Resources
Your best training resource, as always, is your head track or cross country coach. No one knows your unique running history and potential better than your coach, so be sure to lean on them as your primary resource.
We're here to further expand your potential as a runner by sharing the combined knowledge of the Myers brothers and the crew at the Columbus Running Company. Over the course of the season, we'll be adding training resources - but they're only available to Myers Mile registrants. Below, you'll find our week 1, day 1 post. For more, be sure to sign up for full content.
INTERACTION
A season is more fun with teammates, so we'll be linking you with other track & XC athletes through:
- Strava: This online running log allows you to post mileage, share images and comments, and be part of the virtual camp community. Sign up here.
- Email: Make sure to check your email! We'll be sending at least 2 coaching emails each week, updating you with our new coaching content.
- Instagram: Use #MyersRunningCamp on your posts and share your training & racing details with everyone.
- A Virtual Race: On Saturday, June 6, we all be running a solo mile. You'll then upload those results through a portal that we'll share, and we'll compile full results for the Myers Mile.
WEEK 1: MONDAY, APRIL 27, 2020
Welcome to the Myers Mile, a virtual track camp. The track season may have been cancelled, but we’re running on - and we’re excited to have you join us. Scroll to the bottom of the page for an official welcome video from Rob Myers, former Ohio State All American and 3:53 miler.
Over the next six weeks, you’ll be receiving coaching content from us, training on your own, and preparing to run the virtual Myers Mile on June 6. We’ve put together a wide-ranging group of camp speakers who will be sharing their advice with you along the way, including state champs, an American record holder, and even an Olympic medalist. Let’s get started.
TRAINING
You’ll receive coaching emails from us every Monday & Thursday during the season. On Mondays, we’ll include your training for the week. If you’re on a track or XC team, we recommend that you check with your coach first, as they may have their own training plan in mind for you. Always follow your coach’s lead first. For those who don’t have a plan for this spring though, follow ours and we’ll prepare you for that mile in June.
It all starts with a plan. Below, you'll find our week 1 training suggestions. You’ll also find information on dynamic warmups and functional strength training, two keys to your continued improvement as a runner.
