FAQ
Timberclaw 3 Hour Partner Relay – FAQ
What is the Timberclaw 3 Hour Partner Relay?
The Timberclaw 3 Hour Partner Relay is a team endurance race where teams of two runners alternate laps on a 2-mile course for three hours. The goal is simple: complete as many laps as possible before time runs out.
How does the relay work?
Teams consist of two runners.
• Runner A completes the first lap
• Runner B completes the next lap
• Partners continue alternating laps for the entire 3-hour race
Only one runner from each team is on the course at a time.
How long is each lap?
Each lap is approximately 2 miles.
The course is designed to be fun, spectator-friendly, and easy for teams to transition between laps.
What happens when the 3 hours ends?
When the 3-hour time limit is reached:
• Runners already on the course may finish their lap
• The team with the most completed laps wins
If there is a tie in laps, the team that finished their final lap first wins.
Do both runners have to run the same number of laps?
Yes. Since partners alternate laps, both runners will complete the same number of laps unless the race ends while one runner is still on the course.
Can we walk our laps?
Absolutely. You can run, jog, or walk your laps. The goal is to keep your team moving and complete as many laps as possible.
Can we switch the order of runners during the race?
No. Teams must alternate laps in the same order for the entire race.
Runner A → Runner B → Runner A → Runner B
What if one partner gets injured or can’t continue?
If one runner cannot continue, the team may not have the same runner complete consecutive laps, so unfortunately the team would no longer be able to continue in the relay format.
Do we have to stay at the race the whole time?
Yes. Since you’re tagging in your partner every lap, teams should remain in or near the transition zone near the start/finish area so exchanges happen quickly.
Is this race competitive or just for fun?
Both!
Some teams come to compete for the most laps, while others come to challenge themselves and enjoy the team experience.
Whether you're racing hard or just surviving the three hours, you'll fit right in.
Will there be awards?
Yes! Awards will be given for:
STAY TUNED!
What do I do while my partner is running?
While your partner is out on the course, it's your time to recover and get ready for your next lap.
Most runners use this time to:
• Rest and catch their breath
• Stretch or loosen up
• Eat or refuel
• Hydrate
• Use the restroom
• Cheer on other teams
Think of it as your mini pit stop between laps.
Remember: the harder you rest, the harder you can race when it’s your turn.
Can we have larger teams than two runners?
Not for this event.
The Timberclaw 3 Hour Relay is designed specifically for teams of two, creating a true partner challenge where both runners contribute equally throughout the race.
That said, future Timberclaw events will absolutely include larger team formats, so stay tuned if you're looking to bring a bigger crew.
Is there a time limit?
Yes — the race lasts exactly 3 hours.
Runners who start their final lap before the cutoff may finish it, but no new laps can start after the time expires.
Can I run with headphones?
Headphones are allowed, but please remain aware of other runners on the course.
Is the course trail or road?
The course is a mix of trail, field, and runnable terrain, designed to be fast, fun, and partially spectator-friendly.
What should I bring?
Recommended items:
• Water bottle
• Snacks / fuel
• Comfortable running gear
• Camp chair or small team area setup
• Extra layers depending on weather
Teams will have time to rest and recover between laps.
Can spectators come?
Yes! This is a very spectator-friendly race, and we encourage friends and family to come cheer teams on.
