Amissville, VA US 20106

Description

Let's meet at Spillman Park (Amissville) and race a road loop (see the map) that measures 2.6 miles.  That's shorter and, presumably, faster than a 5K.  Should be fun and different.

Why pay $25-40 when you can race for $0.00?  No race fee and no signup fee assessed by this website.  Total cost: $0.00 + $0.00 = $0.00.  Register here or just show up to race (but I'd prefer that you register so I know people are coming, and I can keep you informed if plans change).

BAD WEATHER: If the weather is terrible (T-storms, heavy rain AND cold, or snow) I'll probably cancel.  Watch your email (that's a good reason to sign up) and/or this website on Friday, Nov 14.

COVID-19 PROTOCOL:
Roll your own.  Wear a mask, don't wear a mask, social distancing... it's all your choice.  But, as a practical matter, when we're running, we can't stay away from one another.  Use your own judgement and decide if you want to participate under these conditions.

Spillman Park will be home base for this race.  They have everything we need for a race: parking and portajohns.   Runners will be responsible for knowing the course AND their own safety on the road.  There will be no race marshals  no road closures, and no course marking.  This is just like any other training run where you have to watch out for yourself.  If you beat me in, you have to get your own time.  Results will be posted on this race page.

Please be ready to run by 11AM.  I plan to be there at 10:00, and to jog the course at 10:15.   Runners are invited to jog the course with me for a warmup and to familiarize themselves with the turns.  We should be back at Spillman by 10:45, so you will have plenty of time to make final preparations for racing.  I will have course maps for all runners.  The course is easy to follow, so there should be no problem with people getting lost.

Why a guerrilla race?  Because if I get official permission to have a race, the county will make me buy liability insurance (which costs like $300).  BUT the park and roads are open to the public. I  run there, myself with no permission and no insurance.  So that's what we're doing; members of the public just showing up and running.  We just happen to be timing ourselves.  All good.
