Spring 10-Miler/Half Marathon Training

Our Spring 10-Miler and Half Marathon Training Program targets the Cherry Blossom 10-Miler and the Alexandria Half Marathon. Other half marathons, such as the Shamrock Half and the Rock-n-Roll Half, can be accommodated.

Our Spring 10-Miler/Half Marathon Training Program is open to all levels: beginners, intermediate, and advanced runners, although, we encourage advanced runners to consider our High Performance Training.

Beginners should be comfortable running 3 miles as a long run and 10 miles a week.

Intermediate runners should be comfortable running a 6 mile long run and 18 miles a week.

If you are running more miles than the intermediate level, but you're not quite running the minimum miles for the High Performance Training, we recommend signing up for the intermediate program, but talk to you coaches about training adjustments.

High Performance Training

Our High Performance Training is for experienced runners. This program is opened to experienced runners training for spring:

  • 10-milers,
  • half marathons,
  • or marathons.

This program is only for experienced runners running a spring 10-miler, half, or marathon. It is not a beginner program. We are not offering a beginner/intermediate marathon program this spring.

Participants in the High Performance Training should already be comfortable running a minimum 13 miles as a long run and should be running at least 30 miles per week. If training for a spring marathon, trainees should be running a minimum of 15 miles as a long run and 35 miles a week (40 is ideal).

This program is open to all paces provided you are running the minimum mileage. This program places a greater emphasis on pace, workouts, and high weekly mileage.
