Sunday, September 26, 2021 8:00AM – 5:00PM Central Time
Instructors will incorporate a 5-minute break every 60 minutes or so. There will be a 45-minute lunch break at approximately 12PM.

Class will be a mixture of lecture, seminar-style conversation, individual work, and small group exercises, including presentations and role play. Before the class, you will be asked to view a Webinar as preparation. Day One will include topics such as principles of coaching, principles of building a periodized program, understanding exercise physiology for coaching, running form, and elements of a periodized training program. After Day One, you will be asked to sketch out training plans based on the Case Studies introduced in Day One. This informal and ungraded "homework" assignment asks you to apply materials from Day One to prepare for Day Two's group work. Day Two includes the business of coaching, sports psychology, nutrition for coaching, recognizing injuries and prevention, environmental factors that affect running performance, and building training programs as a group activity. While every cohort receives the same curriculum, every cohort has a different dynamic, so the specific schedule may be modified to suit the specific needs of the weekend program.

Online Course Process Overview:

  1. The online course will be team taught by two or more RRCA coaching education instructors. Registration is limited to 35 participants to encourage a positive, interactive learning experience.
  2. Participants will receive a hard-copy coursebook shipped directly to them in the week before the course. FedEx will ship the hard copy coursebook directly to the U.S. mailing address listed in a participant's registration at no additional charge. *The address you enter on the RunSignUp registration page must be able to accept a FedEx shipment the week before the course takes place.* International participants may be asked to help cover shipping costs and will be contacted individually via email to discuss.
  3. Course participants will receive multiple pre-course emails from instructors with updates and assignments, including viewing an online video.  Please be sure you provide an email address that can receive group emails.
  4. Instructors will use the RRCA private license to teach in the interactive online Zoom environment. It is a user-friendly presentation and videoconferencing platform. Instructors will email a link to participants to join the Zoom classroom in the days before the course takes place.
  5. Course participants will need a computer, tablet, or phone with video and audio capabilities on a reliable Internet connection, and should set up in a quiet space to avoid distractions. Instructors will use both the audio and video functions, and will use the screen share feature to display the course slideshow.
  6. There will be plenty of opportunity for both written and spoken discussion and Q&A during the course. In addition, there will be small group work on program development in breakout Zoom rooms.
  7. Instructors will take attendance at various points during both course days. Attendance and participation throughout both course days is required to pursue certification.
  8. The Zoom course may be recorded in part or in full for the RRCA's use. A participant's course registration and attendance indicates understanding and agreement that all photos and videos will become the property of the RRCA and will not be returned.
  9. As part of the certification process, prospective RRCA coaches must have current CPR and First Aid certifications. In light of the pandemic, the RRCA is accepting CPR and First Aid certifications that are completed online. Prospective coaches will have 60 days after the course to submit evidence of valid CPR and First Aid certifications.
  10. The post-class exam will follow standard online exam protocols, in which participants are required to take the open-book exam without assistance from others. Prospective coaches will have 30 days after the course to complete the online exam. A score of 85/100 or better is required for certification.

Waiting List Procedure:
The RRCA uses an automated waiting list tool through the RunSignUp registration platform. If a course has reached capacity, a prospective participant may register for that course's waiting list. The prospective participant will receive an email if a space becomes available, and will have 24 hours to complete the online registration process before the space is offered to the next person on the waiting list.

Cancellation and Refund Policy:
Participants may request withdrawal from a course and a partial refund in the amount of $275 ($325 - $50 cancellation fee) up to two weeks before a course takes place. No refunds will be issued for withdrawals requested less than two weeks before a course. Course transfers are not permitted. Processing fees charged by the RunSignUp registration platform will not be refunded. Please email coaching@rrca.org to request withdrawal.
