Description

Education, relationship building, openness and exploration of the communities around us can lead to understanding and to combat racism. In 2020, the Utica Roadrunners (UR) created a route throughout the heart of Utica, NY for members and friends to run/walk at their leisure as a way to jointly take a stand against racism and injustice. Along the route, participants learned about different places, people and events that celebrate the rich history and contributions of Utica’s black community through over 30 temporary historic signs. Participants were encouraged to have discussions as they walked/ran or listen to podcasts or audiobooks to advance their understanding or race relations and social injustice.

Michelle and Alex will join us on Zoom to share how the event was created, the feedback and impact of it and their plans to expand it this summer.
